Scott Anthony Van Leuven

Scott Anthony Van Leuven, aged 83, passed away on May 6, 2024, in Oakland, California. Born on August 23, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, Scott spent his life adventuring and collecting stories. Known for his sharp wit and expansive knowledge of trivia, he cherished the joy found in life's simpler pleasures, such as a hot bath, a leisurely walk, or a long conversation.

Scott was a pioneering spirit in many ways, including his choice to be a stay-at-home father. His commitment to the well-being of children and the underprivileged characterized his politics, and he was immensely proud of his children's path as "Helpers" in the world.

He leaves behind a loving family: his son, Charles Van Leuven; daughter-in-law, Alexandria Van Leuven; daughter, Gabriella Van Leuven; son-in-law, Jawara Becks-Drake; and grandchildren, Alonso Becks and Camilo Becks. His final days were joyously spent surrounded by his family and friends, a fitting tribute to a man who valued human connections above all else.

In remembrance of Scott's lifelong dedication to advocacy and care, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The ACLU or Mercy Ships, organizations that were very close to his heart.
