Scotty Columbus Smith, 61, went to join his daughter, Jessica Louise Smith on January 2, 2021, the 34th anniversary of her death. Born in Hampton, Scotty was a lifelong resident. His home was always the gathering place for his Buckroe friends who referred to him as the “Mayor of Buckroe”. He enjoyed cars and tinkering with mopeds and scooters. He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local Lodge 45. He had been a wonderful caregiver for his brother in the years following a car accident which left him permanently injured.
Scotty was also preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Mattie Smith. Survivors include his two sons, Russell Scott Smith and fiancée, Jamie Willis and James “Jimmie Jack” Smith; his brother, Russell Paul Smith; his grandson, Landon Russell Smith; his lifelong soulmate and best friend, Brenda K. Smith Vick; and his dog, JoJo.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Buckroe Baptist Church by Rev. Eddie Heath.
Memorials may be made to the American SIDS Institute, 528 Raven Way, Naples, Florida 34110 or the American Cancer Society, 477 Viking Dr Ste 130, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
