Sean Beach Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2010.
Sean C. Beach, 62, of Williamsburg, VA, formerly of Northport, NY, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2010. He had courageously fought back from a severe brain injury over the last 5 months. Sean loved life and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of everyone around him.
Sean was a 30-year veteran of the Nassau County Police Department on Long Island, New York where he garnered many honors serving and protecting the community. He retired as a Lieutenant seven years ago. He was an avid sports fan and devoted much of his time to coaching and participating in soccer and basketball programs for youth, including his 4 children. He pushed others to exceed their best and always led by example.
Sean was born in New York on Feb. 20, 1948 and married his soul mate, Barbara Lynn Hicks in 1969. Three years after meeting at the community pool in Levittown, NY, a marriage full of deep love and mutual respect began and flourished for almost 42 years. Their partnership epitomized the true meaning of love. As parents, their devotion to family was unending and marked by the “small things that brought us all together including family trips throughout the United States, barbeques, dog walks in the woods and home improvement projects. He taught a lesson, whether spoken or not, in all of these moments.
Sean was a husband, son, father, brother, teacher, coach, traveler, reader, golfer, family man, lover, truth seeker, Irishman, volunteer, charitable giver, handyman, educator, student, protector, police officer, explorer, environmentalist, role model, devoted Roman Catholic – and Sean lived his life with an unwavering passion that was an inspiration to all of those many people that had the honor to know him.
Sean is survived by his wife, Barbara; father, Robert; children and their spouses, Chris and Andrea, Sean and Theresa, Keith and Katherine, and Kerry and Ewan; siblings Robert, Kathleen, Maureen, Aileen, and Laureen; as well as his beloved grandchildren Cameron, Matthew, Ryann, Owen, Conor, Madison, Ava, Callen, Chloe, Ethan, and Ella. He is also survived by many other friends and family, notably the recipients of his final gift of hope and life through organ donation.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, August 10 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, on Wednesday, August 11 at 9 am.
