Five weeks' later, I'm still waiting for you to put the key in the door, to take the boys for a walk. In my heart, you'll live forever, and I wonder at the beauty we found in the strength and length of our relationship, to find so much love at the end. Love you always honey, Julie, Angus and Manny xxx

The Fahy Family (Ireland) are deeply saddened at the passing of one of life's true gentlemen. My brother James had the pleasure of being your friend and a fellow country man. Thank you for the hand of friendship that you extended to me when I first arrived in Melbourne. Helen (Fahy) Jowett.

So young, so brave and an excellent example of courage and tenacity. His mum must also be a brave woman - to allow him to follow his dream and aspirations and the path God had for him - easier said than done! I hope I can be so brave!

Our thoughts & prayers are with Peggie, Fiona, Gwen and the Wight family. It is so sad that we have lost Sean, a truly great man and a childhood friend from the Titwood cricket field in Glasgow.
He was the brightest of bright lights and an inspiration to all who knew him.

'Irish', my first impressions of you were less than auspicious. On a cold afternoon at VFL Park, you kicked the ball out from full back - straight to the opposition, about 10 metres from goal! But it didn't take me too long to see you were a champion athlete, champion footballer and champion human being. My condolences go to your family.

Sympathies to Peggy, Gwen, Fiona, family & friends. Such a loss to you all.

As impressive a sportsman as he was, I was always more impressed with him as a person & a fantastic ambassador for everything he did! I was privilaged to have been aquainted with him from when he came to Listowel first & on his many return visits here over the years. He always had time for a friendly chat with you & showed genuine interest in updating himself on local news. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him in any way.

It was an honour and pleasure watching you play for the Melbourne Football Club. I saw you on your hands and knees in a night grand final against Essendon at AFL Park. You tore your hamstring, but you would not let any Essendon players near that ball - you literally crawled to get the ball away from their goal. We won by 4 points. Sean, I never had the opportunity to meet you but through your football it was like I did. I hope you find enternal peace and happiness at the "Big MCG in Heaven". God Bless You Sean Wight.

July 6, 2011

dear Sean…I remember discussing with you where your athleticism came from…you told me how you used to ride your bike up a very steep hill to your home every day when you were a little boy…and that’s where you think your strong legs and power came from…

a lot of people saw that strength and power but there was always your calm, gentle and unassuming nature as well…

people loved you and loved to be near you – me included…

wonderful, gentle, strong man....

so sad to say goodbye

love always

Sean, you were the athelete we all wanted to be whether gaelic , soccer or tennis. I was priveleged to enjoy four years with you in Listowel. For me you will be forever young soaring to field the ball at centrefield on the football pitch and delivering stinging volleys on the tennis courts. You were brave beyond belief. And we were all so proud of what you achieved down under.

What a wonderful man. When I think of you I only remember laughter. We celebrated my new golf clubs like we were welcoming a new member of the family, could only laugh when someone stole all four fancy wheels off your much loved Subaru, eating ice cream until we couldn't eat any more and your reading choice...Harry Potter! I did not know Sean but I have been a MFC supporter since 1969, I am now 54. I watched Sean playing through the exciting years of 1986 - 88 many times, good times. I also lost my beloved wife last year from cancer over the same time of 5 months. Relentless and I felt powerless. We had no children. I can truly appreciate what Sean's family will be going through, there are no words that can ease the pain nor will there ever be an end to it. I just hope time may dull it for all who loved him, I believe, like my beloved wife, he lives on in a better place. This world is not a fair place and many of the best are taken too soon.

Farewell dear friend. Sean was the first friend I made when I came to Australia in 1999. I didn't know a single person in Australia and within 3 weeks in the country I met Sean on the soccer pitch and he invited me for dinner at his place and gave me my first introduction to Aussie Rules Football. He showed me around Melbourne as we played soccer together and having arrived alone as a young lad himself he knew what it was like coming to Australia on your own and he showed me the greatest kindness and helpfulness I had ever seen. I didn't know Sean as one of the all time greatest Aussie rules footballers but just a wonderfully generous spirit and for that I will always be in debt to him. To loose the battle to cancer in only 4 months is simply brutally unfair - RIP Sean

Sean, I will remember you for your bravery and courage on and off the ground. July 1, 2011

You inspired this young kid with your relentless commitment. One of my greatest football memories was of Sean Wight, deep into the last quarter of the 1987 elimination final. The Demons were up by over 100 points yet there you were - airborne, stretched out in full flight in order to rush a certain goal through for a behind. I was in awe and the beautiful superfluousness of it will never be forgotten.
Goodbye to a childhood hero.

Coops

July 1, 2011

Many of us at Moreland City Soccer Club still remember the first time you rolled up with your boots. We were running a 'defensive corner' drill and I threw you a bib to make up the numbers on the attacking side. Corner after corner you leapt up and headed the ball with power and accuracy making us and the drill look silly. We quickly moved on to another drill pretending that didn't it happen! You became a trusted teammate and good friend to all. Rest in Peace 'Big Man".

I was very young when Sean played footy, never got to see him as much as I'd have liked. But I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and pass my deepest condolences to his family, and his friends as well as former teammates there at the Demons.

As not only a Collingwood supporter, and a supporter of Aussie Rules in general I have had family battling cancer, and had hoped for good news for Sean, but he will be sorely missed.
