I worked with Shadd at Fort Wayne Air Service in the late 1980s. He worked the line, and was getting his ratings while I flew in the charter department. I was reminiscing, and was shocked and saddened when a google search led me to this obituary. Shadd never failed to light up a room with his smile and his contagious laugh. I´m so very sorry he´s gone.

We know Shadd from his time in Salt Lake, UT - flying hang gliders and paragliders in his free time. We became friends with ihm and Tina. He sure made us laugh, his sense of humor, his attitude - smiles, positivity and making things better. We personally experienced his open home , caring heart and real support as a true friend when things got hard. He was such a loyal soul and had such a joy for life . Shadd - you left a BIG SMILE mark on this planet and we will miss you .

I´ll never forget the time Shadd encouraged me to play poker at the pool by A Dock. I told him I didn´t know how. He said no worries there would be a beginner table and he would show me what I needed to know. There was NO beginner table but he did help me and ultimately (hours later after seasoned players had exited the game) I won the small jackpot. $78. Donated the funds to fellow sailor Paula to rappel 17 stories off a building to support cancer patients. Thanks Shadd for teaching me to play poker and giving me a great story to tell in the process. I do believe he could have talked anyone into just about anything.
Tina-he was so lucky to have you in his life and corner (always) and he knew it. Sending you lots of love and HUGE hugs today and beyond.

Shadd did my last few 767 sim sessions plus checkride at Eastern. This was when the FAA shutdown in 2019 and I was on hold for 2 months. Finally the FAA opened up and I got a last minute call to do my warmup that night. I scrambled for my flight into Miami landing just before sim and only had my bright yellow shorts and a Tshirt. I told Shadd I had to go Opa Locka to change but he said forget that as it would burn sim time and so he apologized to the security at Boeing for my appearance. I think I´m the only pilot to train at Boeing Miami training center in bright yellow shorts and a Tshirt. Luckily it was late night. Thanks Shadd for helping me get my 767 type I´m forever grateful!

Going roller skating or riding our dirt bikes when we were young. We were definitely a couple of hellions back in the day.

When we were in Oslo Norway working for Xtra Airways doing a Norwegian Air contract. My childhood friend Torgeir took us out on the Oslo Fjord and we hit a little seafood restaurant on a little island only accesible by boat. Shadd loves boating so we really enjoyed this trip together.

Wendy and I want to send our deepest condolences to Tina, the boys, Baily and all family members.
Shadds friend network ran far and wide. Not only was he a friend he was a husband, a father, a mentor. Shadd was a professional Aviator, a avid Sailor and glider pilot. And if you knew Shadd, you knew that he was a awesome story teller. I was lucky to have known Shadd and call him a close friend. Our backgrounds ran similar paths from Deep Sea Diving to flying jets all over the world to relaxing on a afternoons sail in search of that perfect sunset.
He loved Tina and the boys and he wasn´t shy about telling you just how much. I miss our morning briefings but the memories and what I learned from Shadd will be carried with me forever.
Fair Winds & Follow Seas to our good buddy and dear friend.

Shadd was incredibly generous in sharing his passion and knowledge of sailing. His advice, encouragement, and enthusiasm is already missed deeply. Here are a few pictures of Shadd and Tina kicking our butts in a friendly race and cheering afterwards from their dinghy. I wish we had more time together.

I worked with Shadd in the 80's at Fort Wayne Air Service, Fort Wayne, IN where he was starting his aviation career by fueling private planes and the airlines while learning to fly. He was always smiling and such a jokester! He also met Tina there as well. He is a happy memory when I think back to that time...

Describe a time Shadd made me smile or laugh!?!? There is not enough room to type this answer and my thumbs would fall off trying!!! Every single time this man entered a room, people were smiling a laughing. I feel terrible (as his Hygienist AND FRIEND) that his teeth were not as clean as I could have gotten them, because he would have me in tears for the entire appointment. He made me feel like a little kid that had the giggles!!!! And he would laugh just as hard. He ALWAYS talked about his love for Tina.... How she was his very best friend. I envied their relationship (in a good way). He will be dearly missed.

Many of us appreciate what shadd brought to aviation by his achievements. He will be remembered not only for expertise in the aviation field with his colleagues, but also for his willingness to share his time and knowledge to others, and it would be difficult to measure the impact he has had on the many people's lives he touched, personally and professionally.

His commitment to helping others and to serve the aviation community leaves a wonderful legacy. He was a thoughtful and generous friend of many, and we are very grateful for the many contributions he made to foster young aviators. We are saddened to lose such a loyal and committed friend, he will be dearly missed.

In retrospect, perhaps not all.... Shadd was one who knew that we don't know all.... but most experiences with him as a wonderful airman and friend in three words: smiles, flying, smiles.
