Shankar Roy, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 26, from complications following a stroke. It was his 66th birthday. He was a strong, quiet leader. He loved being an engineer at Pall Corporation, where he worked until his stroke. He was loved and respected throughout his venerable career as an electrical engineer from his start in pulp and paper, to plastics, and finally onto water filtration. He was the first of his family to graduate from a Canadian university, obtaining a bachelors in electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo. He was also a devoted husband and father, taking care of his late wife through her battle with cancer. He spent the following years fulfilling her wishes, walking both daughters down the aisle and feeding his grandson his first rice. He leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, quiet resolve and love.
Shankar will be joining his wife, Shantona, in heaven and will be missed by his two daughters,
Sonali Son and Shayta, Roy, his son-in-laws Aaron Son and Prantik Saha and his grandson, who calls him Batman Dadu, Kailash Son. He is also survived by Munna, Dada, Baudhi, Diya, Bujan, Aisha, Rishan, Tumpa, Raj, and Kuhuk. He will be missed by his relatives in India and his friends in Syracuse, as well as the Canadian geese on Seneca Lake, which gave him much joy. He remains a hero for us all.
A private service was held on January 27 2017. His body has been cremated according to traditional Hindu customs.

We were so saddened and shocked to hear about his passing. Shankar lived across the street from us, opposite the Deckers. Several times he treated us for dinners with the Decker's and John and Elaine Haynes. He was such a gentle and generous man. I am just so sorry we didn't say goodbye to him before we left for Florida, and we are especially sorry to have missed his memorial service. He will be missed by many.
