Shannon Chapman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 15, 2025.
Shannon Chapman, 60, of Mound, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on October 25th, 2024 at his home, leaving family and friends in deep sorrow.

Shannon was born to Linda and Jerry Klett on April 24th,1964 in Spencer, Iowa, and was lovingly raised by Linda and David Chapman. He attended Spencer schools from second grade through his sophomore year where he made many lifelong friends. While attending Spencer Junior High School, he was an accomplished and active swimmer on their champion swim team. He transferred to Culver Academies in Culver, IN for his junior year and senior years where he graduated in 1982. In 1989, he received a BA in psychology from the University of Minnesota, and soon after found work with Norwest Banks before moving to San Francisco upon their merger with Wells Fargo. Shannon was a cherished coworker who dedicated 25 years of leadership in asset management for Wells Fargo and subsequent companies. After moving to California, he met his true love, Paula Brown, through mutual friends. They married on December 9, 2000 at a ceremony in the vineyards of Hans Fahden winery in Calistoga, CA. After moving into a home in Sa n Rafael, CA, they had their beloved son, Ethan. In 2013, they moved to Minnetonka, MN, and stayed, planning to retire in Mound with a beautiful view of Lake Minnetonka.

Along with his love of being a father and husband, Shannon cherished the time spent at his grandparents' house on Lake Okoboji in Iowa, where he developed a passion for water sports like sailing, boating, water skiing, and windsurfing. Shannon also had an unmatched love for trivia, rarely bested in a battle of wits, always ready to challenge anyone brave enough to play him at Trivial Pursuit. He loved to cook, manning the grill almost every night, providing great feasts for everyone present. A man of big spirits, he could always be found cracking jokes and laughing with friends and family.

Not long before his passing, Shannon lost his wife, Paula, from terminal breast cancer on August 16th, 2024.

Shannon is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edgar and Ilo Hatten of Okoboji, IA; his paternal grandparents Earl "Squeeg" and Ruth Chapman of Spencer, IA; and his uncle Dan Chapman of Okoboji, IA. Shannon is survived by his son Ethan Chapman of Minneapolis, MN; his mother Linda Chapman of Minnetonka, MN; his father, David Chapman of Minneapolis, MN; his sisters Kate (Charles) Galloway of Stillwater, MN and Liz (Casey) Klinkenborg of Elk River, MN; his aunt Susan (Jim) Fisher of Denton, TX; his uncles Thomas Hatten of Topeka, KS, David (Gracie) Hatten of Austin, TX, Sam (Heidi) Chapman of Spencer, IA and Paul (Connie) Chapman of Okoboji, IA; and his cousin, Chris Lampe of Omaha, NE. He also leaves behind many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory and the joy he brought to their lives.

A joint celebration of life for Paula and Shannon Chapman will be held in Minneapolis on June 8, 2025. Information can be found here www.shannonandpaula.com. I am sorry to hear of Shannon´s passing. I had the pleasure to work with Shannon when he hired me to work at Norwest Investment Services just before the merger with Wells Fargo. He was such a joy to work with. Always positive, with a big smile and a contagious laugh. Everyone on our team loved Shannon and grew tremendously under his leadership. I am forever grateful for the opportunity that Shannon gave me to advance my career. He was as such a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.

I was fortunate to spend time with Shannon in Okoboji, he was a good friend of my older brother and an older brother figure to me. Maybe not always a good influence, but always a fun influence. Miss you Shannon.

I met Shannon at Culver. He played on the academy's first lacrosse team in Spring 1982 and I drove him and a classmate to visit my alma mater, where he enrolled as a freshman the following year. Always cheerful, good-hearted, and never letting the rigors of cadet life bend his spirit, he was one of my favorite players and one of the young men who made that First Team unforgettable. So sorry to hear this sad news -- sending prayers to Ethan, his family, and legion of friends. Godspeed, Chappie!

I am so sad and shocked to hear this. Shannon was one of my first boyfriends, when we worked together at Lowry Hill Liquor-a million years ago. He went way too young. My condolences to his family.
