Joe and Barb: We just found out that you had lost your daughter. Hope it helps in some tiny way to know that friends from years past are thinking of you, too, and so very sorry to hear this. Take care, Dennis and Lois Heldenbrand

Dear Joe and Barbara Walsh and all of your family especially Shannon's siblings: I've lost a daughter so I know what you're going through. I want to tell you that it takes as long as it takes to get through this devastating event. People don't understand that you will never recover from this. Your pain will recede over time but it will be a number of years before you will be able to remember things she did and laugh about them.

When someone says that you need to get out and have some fun (or some other thing) you should try to remember that they can't possibly understand and hopefully if they could they would not be so insensitive. I'm sure you'll read books about grief and they will help.

When my daughter died, unexpectedly, I wanted to be where she was. It was too much to take in that she was no longer on the earth, that I couldn't go to her. And her death shook my faith, hard. My daughter was gone and so was my God. It has taken almost ten years to get back to where I am now but nothing at all will ever be the same.

If I could throw a safety net over you and your family I would. It would protect you from all sadness until you can bear it again. And again, it takes as long as it takes.

I am so very, very sorry.

Joe, Barb, and the entire (extended) Walsh family,

I was shocked to hear of Shannon's untimely passing. Although I didn't know her for myself, I understand that she and my niece Elaine were quite close. Our families have been linked for so long as I can remember that I feel as though I have lost a niece. My heart goes out to all in the extended family who are feeling the loss of a beautiful and talented young lady. I'm sure she will be greatly missed.

Dear Mother of Shannon,

My message of sympathy goes out to all of the family, but I especially wanted to address you Mrs. Walsh.

I had read Shannon's obituary the day it appeared in the paper. It wasn't until Sunday that I learned who her mother is. Donnie Lilly had returned a phone call I had made to her and told me you were a teacher at BCMS. This information touched my heart in a special way.

You see, MY daughter is Nancy Pickren Kremeier. Today (Aug 9th) is her 43rd birthday. You and I have had such a terrible loss. In addition, you will remember that Nancy lost her son Dakota just 2 years ago this Aug 21st. He was just 17 and had one week of his senior year of high school. Dakota was my very first grandchild.

I took birthday balloons to Nancy today, and as I prayed at her and Dakota's grave, I said a special prayer for you as I KNOW how difficult this is. Please, if there is ANY time day or night that you feel like you need to talk to (or with) someone who has been in your exact shoes, please feel free to contact me. I raised a very loving and caring daughter that would listen and understand if you needed her, and I like to think she would like for me to be here for you.

If you want my phone # or e-mail, just let Donnie know, or reply to this message.

Love & Prayers to all of you.

Barb and the Walsh family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss of Shannon. You were such a protective mommy and I remember when the kids were little you let them ride their bikes to the tree in our front yard with their helmets on and you were always outside watching them.
Just remember that Shannon's memory will remain in your hearts forever.

I was very saddened to read Shannon's obituary in the newspaper. Even though I have not seen Shannon (and Zach and Meighan) for quite a few years, I have very fond memories of them when they were students at Pleasant Lea Elementary. Like her siblings, Shannon was a very sweet and kind person. I can see by her picture that she grew into a beautiful, young woman on the outside also. Mr. and Mrs. Walsh, Zach, and Meighan, I am very, very sorry for your loss of your daughter and sister, sweet Shannon. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Love & Blessings,
Jackie Krinke (former PLE librarian)

Joe and Barb,
It is hard to image the pain and loss that you have suffered. Losing a child is one of the worse things a parent fears and is the hardest to face. I hope and pray that the two of you know how much you and your family's loved by all of us.

Shannon was a one of a kind person. Always smiling, positive, funny, athletic, she was everything I wanted to be. I was honored to have been able to grow up with her and remain friends with her since elementary school. I will never forget you Shannon, you had an impact on my life and I can't wait to see you again soon. Joe and Barbara, thank you for making a gorgeous girl who changed lives. She will never be forgotten.

HEAVEN
I'VE FOUND A NEW PLACE WHERE I CAN BE FREE: I'VE FOUND A WHOLE NEW BEGINNING JUST MADE FOR ME: I KNOW ONLY PEACE AND I NEVER FEEL PAIN; DAYS ARE FULL OF SUNSHINE AND NEVER THE RAIN; ALL OF MY DREAMS HAVE BECOME MY TRUTH; I CAN SMILE, I CAN LAUGH, I CAN WALK, I CAN RUN; I CAN HEAR WHISPER, I CAN SEE PAST THE SUN. MY BODY IS WHOLE AND MY MIND IS SO CLEAR, I KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS AND I'M FREED FROM ALL FEAR. I KNOW WHY YOU MOURN ME, I SEE HOW YOU WEEP; YOUR HEART'S FULL OF ACHING FROM A LOVE THAT WAS DEEP. AND I'M GRATEFUL FOR LOVED ONES THAT HOLD ME SO DEAR, BUT REMEMBER I'VE FOUND A BETTER PLACE HERE. I WILL BE THERE BESIDE YOU, ALWAYS NEARBY; SO DON'T MOURN ME FOR LONG, NOR FOREVER CRY. AND WHENEVER YOUR SORROW BEARS DOWN ON YOUR HEART, THINK NOT OF MY ENDING, BUT OF MY NEW START. FOR ON EARTH THERE'S NO JOY THAT I'D EVER SEE TO COMPARE TO THE JOY OF GOD SMILING AT ME
