Sharon Deterding

Sharon Louise Deterding (née Wharton), age 75, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born on January 21, 1950, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Sharon brought warmth and joy into the world from the very beginning and continued to do so throughout her life.

Sharon was a gift to everyone she encountered-her presence made people feel comfortable, relaxed, and deeply loved. With her quick wit and off-the-cuff remarks, she had an uncanny ability to connect with others, even complete strangers. Her lighthearted spirit and infectious humor left lasting impressions wherever she went.

Family was the heart of Sharon's world. She took immense pride in her three daughters-Bonnie Smith, Kim Mulle, and Lisa Deterding-not only as their mother but also as their best friend and greatest cheerleader. Her love for them was boundless and unwavering. That same love extended to her nine grandchildren: Owen Smith, Addison Lundin, Jonah Smith, Harper Lundin, Brylee Mulle, Ellie Miranda, Brooks Lundin, Nate Smith, and Camryn Kerbey. They were the apple of her eye and the source of endless joy in her life. Sharon cherished every moment spent "moving and shaking" with them-creating memories filled with laughter, energy, and affection.

She is also lovingly remembered by her brothers Roger Wharton and Robert Wharton. Sharon was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard Deterding; her parents Esther Yi Wharton and Herbert Lee Wharton; and her brother Thomas Wharton and half brothers Edward Wharton and Gerald Wharton.

Sharon lived life with a vibrant spirit that embraced adventure and connection. She traveled across the globe to every continent except Antarctica-a testament to her curiosity and zest for life. Whether she was shopping for bargains or gathering with dear friends and neighbors for spirited games of mahjong, Sharon found joy in both the extraordinary and everyday moments.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at The Duchman Family Winery located at 13308 Ranch to Market Rd 150, Driftwood, TX 78619. A catered lunch will follow; guests are kindly asked to RSVP to bonniesmith0143@gmail.com if they plan to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America. This disease is what ultimately took mom abruptly, and we would love more research to be done on its cause and devastation from cancer treatment drugs. Make sure to dedicate your donation to our strong, brave Sharon who fought until the end.
