Sharon Gibbs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 5 to Jan. 6, 2023.

Sharon Ferguson Gibbs was born on November 17, 1946, in Austin, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2022, at the age of 76. She was taken from us too soon.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jim and Frances Ferguson. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Cleo Gibbs; children, Brian McMillan and wife Jennifer of Mt. Vernon, TX, Tamara McMillan Berger of Seguin, TX, Roger Gibbs of Austin, TX, Debra Gibbs Kouri and husband Dennis John of San Antonio, TX, Beverly Gibbs Porch of Lytle, TX, Cleo Dean Gibbs and wife Cheryl of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Kathy Ferguson Hooper and husband Mark of Fredericksburg, TX, Beth Ferguson Gonzalez and husband Joe of Burleson, TX; brother, Michael Ferguson, MD and wife Cassie of Santa Barbara, CA. Sharon leaves a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Sharon graduated from John Marshall High School in San Antonio in 1964, and Southwestern University in Georgetown in 1968. She was a dedicated and passionate elementary teacher for 20 years, pouring herself into the students and families of the Boerne ISD. Sharon helped start the ESL (English as Second Language) program for the district and was the only ESL teacher for grades 1-12 at the start of the program.

Her passion was for serving others, especially seniors and young adults with small children. She served her church community and her friends and neighbors with love and devotion, ministering to anyone who had need. Sharon loved deep and she loved wide. She had a profound faith in God and loved Jesus with all her heart, and wanted to share her love of Christ with everyone. Sharon was the kind of bright, magnetic woman who could befriend any person, no matter their walk of life. She loved as Jesus did in the Great Commission: by loving God and loving others unconditionally. Sharon loved to cook for everyone! Her loving presence in our lives will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Fernando Trillo, owner of Las Guitarras, for his comfort and assistance; Officer Edward Collazo of the Boerne Police Department, for taking Cleo to the hospital and staying with him until family arrived (your prayers were a blessing!); Kristin Palmer and Amy Lohse for staying with Sharon until helped arrived.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Sharon's life on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Boerne, followed by a casual reception in the Fellowship Hall. To join us by Zoom, Meeting ID: 755 2128 0431 Passcode: 1117

My heart hurts for the family of this beautiful lady. Sharon was an angel on this earth. My son had her as an elementary school teacher. She was so patient, kind, and loving to him. She made such an impact on him , I can´t explain it all but we have never forgotten her and have loved her for years. We considered her a friend. Matt, my son, is 37 years old now and he has never forgotten her love and support and he never will. Either will I. Rest in the arms of our loving savior, we know we will see you again in Heaven Sharon. Praying for peace and strength in this time for your family.
In him,
Guiomar "Gilma" Kittrell

I remember Sharon from being in Pep Squad with her at John Marshall. She was a grade ahead of me, but I remember how friendly she was & her sweet smile. My heart is so sad for your loss.

Sharon took such pride in all the accomplishments of her grandchildren. Watch over them, remembering every birthday, pictures of her family fill every available space in her home. Those pictures include us all for many occasions. We knew we were and are loved. She is still a bright light in our lives. Thank you Lord for bring her into our lives. We know You, God our Father, will keep her happy.
