Sharon Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2023.
Sharon Johnson, longtime resident of Jefferson County, Colorado, passed away on January 30, 2023. An Army brat, Sharon spent her childhood moving from place to place, but always felt most at home when visiting her maternal grandparents in Cushing, Oklahoma. Sharon met the love of her life, Gary, when she was a sophomore in high school. Gary's Air Force career took them to a multitude of locations, where Sharon was an active volunteer at her children's schools, with scouts, and their bowling leagues. Having been stationed in Colorado on two separate occasions, the beauty of the state left quite an impression, as that's where they settled upon Gary's retirement from the Air Force.

Sharon was a proud Aggie wife and mother. If she wasn't rooting for the Texas Aggies, she was likely rooting for her other favorite team, the Denver Broncos. She loved telling stories and was often the "go to" person when a family member was trying to remember long-forgotten details of a shared memory. Sharon spent the last 5 months in Texas near her daughter, and when her health permitted, Sharon loved to be outside puttering in the garden or working puzzles with new friends at the assisted living facility where she resided. Most of all, Sharon loved to share pictures of her grandchildren and brag about their accomplishments.

Sharon has had a Heavenly reunion with her husband Gary, who passed away in 2021. She is survived by their 2 sons and daughter, one daughter-in-law and a son-in-law, along with 6 amazing grandkids. Both of Sharon's grandsons are newly married, and her first great grandchild, a baby girl, joined the family last year. Her sister and brother-in-law and their family, along with beloved cousins and dear friends, also survive her.

After Gary's passing, the family requested donations to establish a memorial scholarship in Gary's name with The Texas A&M Foundation. Sharon was thrilled to learn that the "Johnson Family Memorial Endowed Opportunity Award" scholarship was officially established in Gary's name with the Williamson County A&M Foundation in the fall of 2022. If you are led to contribute to the scholarship, donations can be made online at give.am/GeneralMemorial.com. Please select the box for "this gift is in honor of someone special," and type the account number, 04-07373, in the "additional comments" section.

Sharon will be laid to rest with her beloved husband at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at some point in the summer when the family is able to gather all together. Details will be shared once finalized.

I remember meeting Sharon when Butch was stationed at Beale AFB. Gary was his supervisor and Sharon sought me out to introduce me to others there. Getting ready for the first wife´s meeting I called Sharon to ask what I should wear. She told me shorts were fine. I found out later that Sharon wore shorts to every activity. She was always there to help anyone that needed assistance. She was a wonderful example for us all.

Sharon attended South Shore Christian Church in Corpus Christi when I was a child. She remembered my family, and would write uplifting sweet comments to me many times on my Facebook page. She enjoyed hearing about my Aggieland memories and we would converse about them from time to time. I will miss her thoughtful, encouraging words.

I met Sharon at the Disney Store at Park Meadows Mall. She loved Disney especially Pooh. She could climb the ladders in the stock room like a billy goat but always knew the answers to where to find a product. She is smiling down from heaven in her shorts and Pooh shirt with Gary watching her family. She loved you all so much. Prayers to you all. Miss you my friend
