Sharon L. Rogers, a beloved teacher, friend, aunt, wife, mom and grandma, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024. Born on February 5, 1939, in Toledo, Ohio, to Ruric and Margaret Loomis, Sharon's journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and a passion for new experiences.

Growing up in Fort Worth, Texas along with her dear sister Patricia, Sharon graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1957. She went on to attend Baylor University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1962 and also met her future husband, Will Rogers. Their 60-year marriage is a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

The early years of Sharon and Will's marriage were filled with fun adventures as they moved frequently due to Will's career in the US Navy. From Newport, RI to Long Beach, CA to Yokosuka, Japan, to Norfolk, VA and Washington, DC, Sharon embraced each new place with enthusiasm, building community with other families and schools where she taught. Eventually, the couple settled in San Diego, CA, where they made their home for the past 48 years.

Sharon dedicated 33 years of her life to teaching, earning a master's degree in education from National University. Her love for the classroom and the children she taught left an indelible mark on countless young minds. After retirement, she kept substitute teaching and her passion for learning never waned. She took up tap dancing, engaged in Bible studies, was a member of the La Jolla Garden Club, and became an avid bridge and Mahjong player. Always up for a new game, Sharon delighted in gathering family and friends for board games or card games. Her competitive spirit and joyful laughter during these gatherings will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Sharon loved to travel. She and Will embarked on countless adventures together. Their journeys were often made even more delightful by the company of dear friends, turning trips into joyous adventures and lasting memories.

Sharon treasured her role as a mother and grandmother. Her bond with her son Bill was marked by humor, good stories, and a shared enthusiasm for new experiences. She delighted in exploring novel activities with him and eagerly visited him wherever his travels took him. She doted on her granddaughters, Viola and Lilly, and was always up for joining them in whatever game they made up. The time she spent with them was among her most prized moments.

Friends remember Sharon as a supportive confidante with a great sense of humor. Her ability to lift spirits and offer a listening ear endeared her to many, creating a circle of friends who became like family.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Will; son, Will (who she called Bill); daughter-in-law Anna; granddaughters Viola and Lilly; brother-in-law Faris Callan; a niece and nephews and their partners Mary and Sam Thomas, John and Franny Callan, Mark Callan and Teresa Espinoza; and close friends and relatives. Her warmth, kindness, and laughter will be deeply missed.

Sharon and I were freshman roommates at Baylor University. I have many happy memories of our time at Baylor. We lost touch over the years, but I thought about her frequently. I am saddened by her passing. My deepest condolences to Will and the rest of the family.

"We love you, Mrs. Rogers,
You're the greatest teacher of all!
We love you in the Winter, Summer,
Spring and in the Fall!
We love all your petite jokes,
Those good jokes are #1
We love you, Mrs. Rogers!
Oh, you made our learning fun!"

Sharon and I met in graduate school at National University and quickly developed a friendship , meeting for dinner prior to our evening classes and later completing a practicum together in a summer reading clinic.

Several years later, we renewed our friendship when we became teaching colleagues at Morning Creek Elementary in the Poway Unified School District. In addition to being a friend and colleague, Sharon was my daughter Jennifer´s beloved 4th grade teacher. Sharon attended Jennifer´s wedding and was one of the "Morning Creek" mommas who mentored Jennifer as she embarked on her own teaching career.

Sharon was such a special person- smart, witty, kind and classy. She loved her family and led a beautiful, fulfilling life. It was a privilege to have been her colleague and friend.

Sharon was always a trusted friend who listened and offered helpful advice. When my husband got new orders by the Navy to relocate to Bethesda Naval Hospital, I didn´t want to uproot the family and move across the country. Sharon´s advice, "Don´t separate the family. Go and enjoy life together. That is what truly matters.". She if course was right! We remained wonderful friends for 40+ years.

I was a teaching colleague of Sharon´s. Looking at her picture caused a huge smile to spread across my face. She was one of those special people who always! made you smile-you always felt "sunny" in Sharon´s presence.
Thank you, Sharon, for sharing your joy!

Sharon was always laughing and nothing made us laugh more than our tap dancing classes and performances. 200 little girls and one group of ladies and we got the standing ovation. Sharon took over my first grade class when my son was born, very early. She jumped right in when I told her my April Fools baby was here and finished the year with all the love and laughter that she always brought to teaching. She was a friend that was always easy to connect with, even when I moved away. Every conversation was like no time had passed. Heaven has a new tap dancer ready to take the stage.
