I worked with Sharon in Traverse City, Michigan in the early 80's. We were really close for a slice of time in our lives. Sharon was a magical person who just put her heart out there for all. She was an amazing Veterinarian and taught me so much.
Sharon was a light.

Back in the early 90s, Sharon would get after the veterinary acupuncturists who were pointing out acupuncture points on the horses in the lab. I can hear her saying to us "You do not adjust a horse with one finger, so I better not see any more fingers!"
Well Sharon you would probably get a laugh knowing that in the IVAS acupuncture labs, chiropractic is brought up all the time - Ha! Yes your efforts not only promoted chiropractic but eventually integrated it with "the finger pointers" - it has come full circle. So every time I am teaching acupuncture and we talk about a correlation to chiropractic, I think of you.

Dr. Sharon will always be my very special Dr. Aunt Sharon. Starting from young child, I remember Sharon always inviting me into her life. It was thru those invitations I received her unconditional love, spirit, encouragement, and guidance that has positively influenced and impacted me personally throughout my life. Not only did I get to be a part of her home life but I lived next door to Sharon's VERY first Veterinary practice in Jackson, MI. Whenever I could, you would find me at her practice yearning for the chance to “hangout” with Dr. Aunt Sharon and her animal world. I will forever have those special hours in my heart when she allowed me to follow and stand next to her in the office listening, and admiring her incredible knowledge and passion for animals. She fed my appetite for animal knowledge and most of all expanding my love for animals. I was heartbroken when she moved to Traverse City, Iowa, then further to Alaska but I knew there were greater needs in the world who needed to share Sharon's special pioneering efforts in Chiropractic Animal Medicine and of course many family she dearly loved. Despite her geographic distance, she was always there to selflessly listen to my life crisis phone calls, always putting me to ease and back on the path with her infinite offering of loving wisdom and guidance. I always desired to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine however, somewhere I changed paths into human medicine and completed my bachelor's degree in Nursing but my passion in my Nursing career has it roots deeply seeded by Sharon's influence. I have admired Sharon throughout her career pursuits and for good reason, she was indeed one incredible special lady. It has taken a long time to sign her book because somewhere I still held on a false belief that it could not be true, not my aunt Sharon, she was always so brave and was just too tough and death had no business thinking it could take her on. However, I stopped and listened closely one day, and now I know, she is still hear in my heart and still here right here with me when I need her most, still guiding me with her loving spirit.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting or training under Dr. Willoughby-Blake but I knew of her through my mentors. I have benefited from her training through training from Dr. Rivera at the healing Oasis, who acknowledges Dr. Willoughby's contributions to veterinary medicine in his lectures.
I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet Dr. Willoughby, I understand being a pioneer in introducing new treatments to a stubborn medical community. Her pioneering efforts were not in vein, there are many of us who have incorporated her teaching and healing into our practices who understand her sacrifice and think very highly of her. My success is in some ways really hers, and I understand and appreciate her for that.

I was blessed with the opportunity to study with Dr. Willoughby in the early 1980's while I was a student at National College of Chiropractic, in Illinois.
It was through Sharon that I was able to connect my two greatest passions in life ~ animals and hands-on healing.
While my career has taken many twists and turns over the years, I am finally returning to my roots and the love of working with animals again.
As a result of an online search this morning, I happened to come across her obituary - which took my breath away.
Thank you, Sharon, for all your good work and for pioneering a connection between chiropractic and animal health/wellness.
You are greatly missed by us all ~ large and small.
May you rest in peace, with love.

I met Dr. Sharon Willoughby 0ver 20 years ago through the American Holistic VMA of which I was a founding member over 20 years ago. I had already studied under a number of DC's, DO's and Holistic healers prior, but I found the training Sharon promoted through the AVCA to be extremely organized and informative and a huge boost in my work with animals, large and small. I just heard of her passing today as I was attempting to reconnect with her after being out of touch for far too long... My sincere condolences to Sharon's family, clients and friends... I know Sharon will be missed by so many people and animals. I also know Sharon will be with many friends (human and animal) on the other side. God Bless Dr. Dana Waer

She saved our dachshund, Max, from a painful life. When others chose to just medicate him, she treated him with great tenderness and care. Max went to heaven 10 years ago. We know he was there, with the throng of those she healed and helped, to greet her joyously. God gave mankind dominion over the animals, and she used that authority in an exemplory way. N. L. I have known Sharon from the early days. While I chose homeopathy as my modality, I have been so thrilled to have chiropractic care available to my clients and students around the world, largely because Sharon had a vision, committed to that vision and made it a powerful reality in the world of animal health care. Reading these wonderful kudos reminds me to tell people now that they have made a difference in my life. Christina Chambreau

I just learned that Sharon passed over. She worked on my horse years ago and had to put up with all of the skeptics at the barn who said it was impossible to adjust a horse. The adjustment worked and she always made time to get out to help my horse, even though the barn was out of her way. Rest in peace Sharon. I think of you often.

My heart broke when I realized Dr. Willoughby-Blake's passed away. Her journey started in Kingsley Michigan, in a small practice. She was my Veterinarian. I knew she was special when my Akita, Raegan began dying for no specific medical reason. Rapid weight loss, skin and bones at a very young age. She never gave up and was open to anything and everything that would help. My Chiropractor asked if he and she could work on her to save her life, rather than to put her to sleep. Well, the rest is history, my dog lived and thrived a full life after they worked on her together. Her life changed and the entire world gained from her insatiable thirst for knowledge. I was so proud of her accomplishments...she was something else. She left her knowledge behind and legacy as a pioneer which will never be forgotten. Until we meet again Sharon, you were special and found your purpose. Rhonnie J. Hodge

My wife and I are saddened to learn of Dr. Willoughby's death. In 1989 we took our Australian Shepherd, age 11, to her for treatment of arthritis of the spine resultant from a horse-kick injury suffered when he was a young ranch dog. Sharon said that due to his age our dog might not respond to treatment. But we gave it a try, and the result was awe-inspiring. For the next few years he saw Dr. Willoughby three times a week, then twice a week. Her chiropractic treatment gave our dog, Freckles, freedom from pain for five years and allowed him to reach the age of 16. We feel that Dr. Willoughby was a loving miracle.

I was privileged to take my chiropractic courses under Sharon. Her vision of both chiropractors and veterinarians working jointly together to help the animals was so far ahead of her time. Her passing saddens all who knew her,

I just learned of Dr Sharon's death in the insights palmer chiropractic magazine. Such a shock ! Although it has been years since I've seen Sharon, she adjusted my cat while we were both students @ Palmer, that was my first exposure to chiropractic for animals. Today my full time work is caring for the 4 legged critters of this world, Thank you SHARON for blazing the trail, that of which I know was not always a smooth one but you were a pioneer and I admire you for your dedication and love of God's animals. You are sadly missed.!!!!!!

To a Sister in Chiropractic: Safe Journey. Our profession has lost another star. I took some classes with Sharon at Palmer College in 1984, We had several conversations about animal chiropractic. She was dedicated to helping animals and excited about learning how to apply chiropractic in that endeavor. I was impressed with her commitment and drive to learn. That was 25 years ago, and it still leaves a positive impression on me.

Our own moments of deep sadness are revisited, and our thoughts are with Sharon's family. You can be very proud of her.
Present day Europe, is another time and place from when we had the pleasure of first meeting Sharon many years ago. We were more than just inspired. Thank's to Sharon, animal chiropractic is our passion and life's work. Her vision and commitment to animal chiropractic has spread throughout, and continues on in Europe. We think she would approve.

I remember the first time I met Sharon. Her exterior quiet and perhaps even misleading. To be in her presence was like sitting in the eye of a hurricaine, or touching a bolt of lightning. Sharon's power drove her vision, unwavering and true.
I was struck by her clarity and commitment as I accompanied her on farm calls back in 1987. She softly spoke of her vision to bring animal chiropractic into the mainstream. Back then it was "voodoo" to most practitioners, vets and chiropractors alike. I will never forget what it felt like to be with her. To hear her words, and to feel the power of her movement. I was up in the stirrup and atop the beast before I realized it. And 23 years later I am still riding a wave that was generated by Dr. Sharon Willoughby, a mentor, a visionary, a friend, and a force of unmeasurable velocity. My wish is that Dr. Willoughby's spirit behind the creation of animal chiropractic will multiply and blossom into its full potential. Always from the heart of her original vision and committment. Safe passage to you my dear friend. You will forever have my gratitude my amazing mentor. I will think of you often and smile.
It all started with Sharon Willoughby!

I can not count the times that former students have made the comment that animal chiropractic has changed their lives, and their animal patients are better for it. Sharon touched my life many years ago. We worked together and played together, and Sharon's kind heart and big smile will not be forgotten. She will continue to touch lives as we continue to teach the wonderful skills she taught us. Sharon will live forever in the hearts of all the animal chiropractors to come. Thanks Sharon! We will miss you, but will work hard to keep your dreams alive. Keep and eye on us and let us know how we are doing. It is truly marvelous, the impact Dr. Willoughby has had on two professions, and the lives of the animals on the planet. Her vision to bring the gift of Chiropractic to the animals of the world, to educate DC's and DVM/DMV's on their care, has enhanced the health and well being of the animals, and given owners another healing modality to offer their companions.
I had the privilege of studying directly with Dr Willoughby, and know that I am a better practitioner because of that.
Sharon was a bright light, shining, for us to follow. May we make her proud, practice as she did - with love, dedication, and the deepest respect for the souls in her care.
Dr Willoughby definately lived a life that mattered.

What an honour and privilege it has been to have been a part of Sharon's dream and vision. The change that she brought to the world exceeded her involvement in Animal Chiropractic. Thank you Sharon for all that you have done in your life to make this planet a better place for all of us, especially our animals. I feel so fortunate that I was taught veterinary chiropractic directly by this amazing woman. Tony Robbins, the self-help guru, once said that you can always tell the pioneers by the arrows in their backs. Sharon was one of those pioneers and she took those arrows because she was confident in chiropractic's place in the veterinary healing arts. My vow to Sharon is to continue to carry her vision forward, teaching other vets/chiropractors, promoting the professionalism of the veterinary chiropractic profession, and, most importantly, to improve the quality of life (including their bonds with their human caretakers) of our animal patients. Sharon...I thank you every day for the gifts you gave me. Like a ripple of a pebble in water, they spread and touch so many others. Be blessed, where ever you are! Love, Kim

How truly short life can be, yet how much can be accomplished in this time--Sharon, you gave the very best of your life! Kudos to you Sharon--you have probably received endless "high fives" from everyone on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge! I thank you for the wonderful education you gave me in 1995. Sharon's spirit, wisdom, kindness, and passion were palpable. Though I haven't seen her for well over a decade, I have tears in my eyes hearing of her passing. She touched so many. May the enduring memories of her life give you solace in this difficult time.

My father too, passed way before his time. The only explanation that I could use to justify it was that he had finished the test and was excused from class early. Sharon was an incredible woman with an incredible vision and the drive and tenacity to see it through. She created something new and gave it to the world. Thanks so much my dear. We will miss you

I have always felt very fortunate to have been taught by Sharon, and very thankful for her efforts in developing and establishing chiropractic care for animals. I am greatly saddened to say goodbye to Sharon, but very happy to have been blessed to know her, learn from her experience, and benefit from her efforts and perseverance. As always, the real winners are our animal friends, and this gift that Sharon has given us will last forever. Thank you Sharon, and I wish blessings and peace for your family. Sincerely, Kevin Keller, DVM

Chiropractic has allowed me to connect with my patients in a way I never knew was possible. It has brought a spiritual aspect to my practice and renewed my reason for wanting to practice veterinary medicine. I love you Sharon and thanks for giving me a new life!

Without Sharon's drive and tenacity there would NOT be an AVCA nor would animal chiropractic/spinal manipulation be at the standard of care that is at present. I thank her for sharing her vast knowledge and experience to all of us over the years. Her legacy will live on in the work we do on a day to day basis. I am very pleased and proud to have known Sharon. She is/was a TRUE PIONEER!

Without Sharon's drive and tenacity, there would NOT be an AVCA or properly trained animal chiropractic/spinal manipulation doctors. MANY thanks to Sharon for being the visionary she was and is in our hearts and memories! Monica

Sharon was a wonderful inspiration to so many of us. For all she did for veterinary medicine, for her animal patients, and for the countless veterinarians she nurtured, educated, and pushed to succeed - I thank you, Sharon. I also thank her loving family, who allowed her to do the amazing work she did.
