Sharon A. Ziel, 57, Moline, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2002, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, with the Rev. Edward Boryzc officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601 38th Ave., Moline.
Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. These gifts will be designated for Children’s Ministries.
Sharon was born Aug. 22, 1945, in Moline, to Frank and Luella Elliott. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1963 and the Lutheran School of Nursing in 1966.
Sharon was married Dec. 31, 1966, to W. William (Bill) Ziel. She worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital, a lab nurse at Carle Clinic, a bookkeeper at Ziel Co. and briefly for Moline School District 40 as an At-Risk Program nurse.
Her first love was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She belonged to First United Presbyterian Church, Moline and was involved with Children’s Ministries, directing children’s choirs, teaching Sunday school, directing youth groups and directing children’s musicals.
She volunteered in the Moline School District for numerous activities, including music and costuming.
She was an avid seamstress, made puppets and costumes and gave of her talents willingly and often.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Ziel, Moline; her mother, Luella Elliott, Rock Island; daughters, Heather (George) McDermott, Moline, and Laura (Matthew) Williams, Moline; a son, Don (Cathy) Ziel, Champaign, Ill.; grandchildren, Hannah, Emma and Grant Williams; and brothers, Ron (Karen) Elliott, Taylor Ridge, Ill., and John Timothy Elliott, Rock Island.
She was preceded in death by her father.
