Shawn Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 21, 2017.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children of God. – Matthew 5:9

There are no words to adequately express the sorrow in losing our brother, Sergeant Shawn T. Anderson just 7 days after his 43rd birthday.
He was a 1992 graduate of Baker High School where he enjoyed being a member of the baseball team. He served 3 years in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where he was assigned to Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Baton Rouge and began his career with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's office. Shawn began his service with the Parish Prison and went on to serve in various divisions including Narcotics, (ESU) Emergency Services Unit, and Maritime Response Team. Shawn transferred to the Canine Division and became a master handler and trainer. It was then that he met his canine partner, Jeager – the beginning of a lifelong friendship. He worked Uniform Patrol serving the Burbank, Scotlandville and Kleinpeter Substations. He was a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's SWAT team for 11 years where he served as a breecher. He was presented with the Life Saving Award in 2010 for saving the life of a woman on Old Mississippi River Bridge. He was also recognized in 2014 for serving more than sixty high-risk warrants in 2013 as a part of SWAT with no injuries or shots fired. In March 2016, he was recognized for delivering a baby on the side of the road.
Shawn was an avid LSU and Dallas Cowboys fan, and he also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. His greatest love was cheering from the sidelines at all of his children's sporting activities.
He leaves behind his wife Becky Davis Anderson and their two children, Delaney Grace Anderson (14) and Breland Thomas Anderson (11), his mother Carol Anderson Bergeron, brother Jackie Anderson and his wife, Stefanie Anderson; his brother Dustin Martin; his sisters Debbie Anderson, Paula Ledford, Renee Anderson and Kristin Martin; his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Joan Davis; his sister-in-law, Tammy Davis Conrad and her husband, Richard T. Conrad III. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and countless friends, including very special friends, Les and Pat Rainey.
Shawn is preceded in death by his father, Jack Anderson. The family is requesting visiting hours to be observed on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Healing Place Church, 19202 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA. There will be a private grave-side service at Shiloh Baptist Church in Pinegrove, LA, but there will be a public processional from Healing Place Church.
The Anderson family wishes to express the sincerest thanks to the men and women of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and all other law enforcement agencies. Thank you also to the many families, companies and individuals from across the country who have shown their support during this difficult time.

Greater love have no man than this, than a man lay down his life for his friends. – John 15:13

A Police Wife

By: Ashley Hoppa
Wife of a Police K9 Officer

I don't wear a uniform.
I don't have a badge.
I have never been sworn in.
Nor have taken an oath, with raised right hand.
My thin blue line is different indeed.
The thin blue line I walk, is from behind the scenes.
I stand behind you, so proud and true.
For you are a member of an elite few.
You have sworn to do a duty.
To uphold the law.
To honor, serve, and protect. That is your call.
While the burden you bear is great.
Mine is nonetheless.
We both carry a very heavy weight.
With hugs and kisses, I smile and I say,
Have a good night, all the while hiding my silent fright.
For every day at 10-41. My burden has yet again begun.
My heart goes with you, and all your brothers and sisters in blue.
I pray you all will return at 10-42.
How do you do it they say? How can you live life that way?
How can you not worry? How can you not fear?
My answer to them is perfectly clear.
Of course I worry. Of course I fear. Always wondering, if end of watch is near.
But this is my duty, I say. It's just what we do.
You see, I too bleed blue.
I am proud to say that I live this life.
Because of the man I love.
I became a Police Officer's Wife.

Becky, few can answer the call to serve and protect, and it takes a very special family to love and support a LEO. Shawn will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Godspeed peace and comfort.

Becky, You have praised Shawn with dignity, beauty and grace. I know how private this family is and that this was something you did only through prayer. I am so glad you were able to do this for the TV interview and at the funeral. I think people need to know what Shawn left behind. You had us laughing at how you met and crying for the loss of your rock. Andrew, Merilee and I were honored to be a part of this magnificent service. No words can express how sorry we are for your loss. Delaney also showed such class and poise in her comments. Priceless that Breland wanted to back her up.

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothering has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am, I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort, with our the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well, Nothering is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the throuble of parting when we meet again!

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Anderson family. I watched the entire Celebration of the Life of Shawn Anderson along with my wife and mother. The entire ceremony was difficult to watch and I was thinking back to when I lost my father over 15 years ago. Shawn was a lot like my father so during the event I shed many tears. You and your family are very strong, I sensed that watching the event. Please stay strong. I will have your family in my prayers.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Looking back through high school yearbooks brought many wonderful memories of Shawn. Hours spent on the baseball field or traveling to an away game. The goofiness and pranks pulled on everyone. The sweetness shown to those who were hurting and the protectiveness he showed when someone was threatened. He was a great guy and will be missed by us all.

Prayers to his sweet wife and beautiful children.

I met Sgt. Anderson once (because my boys weren't always the sweet angels they are now). It was but a brief few moments, but under the toughness that a police officer exudes, there was such a genuine kindness to this man. It was also during these moments that I knew he had a passion for being a public servant and truly wanted to make a positive difference in this world. Thank you, Sir, you made such an impact in the short time you were here on earth and have touched the lives of many. Prayers for the family, and all of the LEO family.

March 22, 2017

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
