Hello,
We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and some of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of US Army Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Christopher Dostie.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

I never knew Shawn personally but he seemed like an amazing father who definitely will be missed. I hope he was a Christian, because it would be so nice to see him again for you all. Just know I am praying for you all. I know he passed over 15 years ago, but still, i feel your pain and am praying continuously. My father died in 2010, when I was only 7, so it's been really hard:( . Just know my prayers and thoughts are with you all

There are so many of our young people who have felt the compelling urge to "serve our country"...so we have the freedom to continue on...without them in our lives. Our thanks and gratitude should be how we serve THEM (and the families they left behind) for their ultimate sacrifice for our country. Thank you the Dostie family for continuing on with great memories.

Thank you for your service, sir, to our country and for paying the ultimate price for our freedom. Your children proudly shared their story and I can only pray that God grants your wife, son and daughter eternal peace and comfort. Rest in peace, warrior. Our nation honors you this day, and every day, for defending our freedom.

Stephanie, Cameron, and Bayleigh,
I just watched the Memorial Day Service in Washington. You were a credit to your husband and Dad. I am so pleased that you are citizens of this great country. It is people like you and Shawn Dostie that have made us what we are and will be. I remember the day the officers came to my home to tell us of my Dad's death. I will never forget it and I hope you know as I did that our loss was not just for us but for our country. I love America and the wonderful people who live here and I love you for being part of it. May God bless you and keep you. Please know that you are not forgotten.

Shawn,
I never met you, but I just talked to your wife on TV. You see, after all this time, it's obvious she still loves you very much. She keeps you in her thoughts everyday and is showing the nation just how much your sacrifice meant to all of us. It was an honor to share that with our audience here in San Diego, a community that knows a thing or two about military sacrifice. Thank you for your service and I just wanted to let you know how much your wife and your family are still here keeping your memory alive.

It seems like yesterday they knocked on my door and told me you were gone. Bargaining with God didn't help. I offered my arms, my legs, and even my own life to bring you back. To this day it seems impossible that it couldn't be fixed. The hurt still lingers and the tears still fall for you. I miss everything about you. I miss your contagious laugh, your energy, your smile, your love for our children, and your Carlton dance:) But most of all I miss your ocean blue eyes. I still cry so hard for you that I can't catch my breath. I turn corners hoping you are there. I wonder if your hair would be turning gray and if you would be as sad as I am that our babies are getting close to leaving our nest. I know you are safe, happy, and carefree now, but I can't help but want you here with us. I hope that you know how much you are missed, what a void you left in so many lives, and how this world will never be the same without you.

Shawn and I were friends in Highschool in 1990. I was going through some of my high school pics looking for some pics of him. I couldn't find any. He moved my senior year, but we hung out a lot during our junior years. I used to pick him up at the army base and we'd go to Six flags, the mall, or just bum around since neither of us had money. He painted his hair red and black for school pride day. We both took Child Care classes at GCHS for the heck of it. He was full of laughter and was a lot of fun. If I ever do find any pics, I'll make sure to post'em here.

Jesus, dad, you're gettin' to be an old geezer. Life is so hard without you here, especially when I need you most. I still can't believe you're gone. Sometimes i just sit around and in my mind, act like your still here. Doing something hilarious like dancing around in the kitchen in nothing but tighty-whities and knee-high socks. I just sit and act like you're here. Adn it eases the excrutiating pain that in reality you're not. But then my consience sets in and reality hits hard. I'll never talk to you again. I'll never play games with you again. I'll never wrestle around with you again. I'll never get to hug you tight and tell you how much I love you again. It may not seem like i miss you on the outside, but inside, you're all that goes through my mind. I miss you so much. It's not fair you had to go so early. I want you here so bad it hurts. I hope you watch over me and smile upon where i'm going in life. I miss you so much, pops. I love you.

Im holding back the tears even today, last night I saw the Sons of the Fallen show. Shawn was my vehicle commander (3 man vehicle team) for 2 years at the 101st back in 2000 before the war. We spent hundreds of hours training together, he was a real man. Our small section won the major competition out of many which was ended by a brutal 25 mile forced road march. Good vibes Dostie Family.

SFC Dostie was one of the best leaders I ever had. I had the privlage to have him as a DI at Ft benning from Nov.02- March 03. We then met up again when he was assigned to Fort Campbell in 2005. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear family of Sgt. 1st Class Shawn C. Dostie ,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely

I sign this book once again. to tell you SFC. Dostie that I have not forgotten you, nor shall I ever. You will always be a man I look up to, you were my platoon sergeant, and you made me laugh on more occasions then I can write.
I hope god understands how fast I tried to run to your vehicle, I tried all i could, and it hurts everyday, I wish I could have done more.
I really am sorry.
I wish I could change that moment where you took the lead in the patrol, I wish I would have died then, I will always wish things could have been changed around. And I am sorry that I am here alive, and you are not.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Ive never forgotten Sergeant First Class Dostie, nor will I ever. He was a man ill always remember for the rest of my life, he was my platoon sergeant, I man I looked up to. He was a man who kept his sense of humor up even in Iraq. Yesterday on memorial day I paid my respects to him, as I do every single day, he will always be a man I will strive to be like, and a man that my children will know from stories I tell them of him.

I had gone to Arlington yesterday to pay my respects to a close friend of mine, and was surprised to find Shawn, a man I had served with years ago in the 101st, almost directly behind. We hadn't kept touch over the years, but I knew the name as soon as I saw it. It only added to the sorrow I felt walking among the garden of stone. My deepest and most sincere condolences go out from my family to yours. Shawn was a good man, and his sacrifice was not in vain. May freedom continue to ring across the world for the gifts that he and others who have fallen, in the name of the protection and spread of liberty throughout our history, have given.
Never Forgotten.

Stephani,
I am so sorry about your loss, I can't even imagine what you are going through. My husband, SFC Schafer, thought very highly of your husband. Your husband will be missed. We are praying for you and your family that you will get through this. May God be with you in your time of need.

Shawn was a good friend of mine in high school in Granite City. Him and my buddy Lee would hang out during his 2 year stay in Granite. Good times. He will be missed.

We are sorry for your loss and understand your pain. Our only son, SFC James S (Shawn) Moudy, was a friend of your Shawn's while he was stationed at Ft. Benning. He was KIA on 11 DEC 2005 in Baghdad while on patrol. They have both been deployed to the Army of the Lord and will wait for us to join them someday.
God grant you the strength to endure.
With our love - The Moudy Family

To Stephanie, Your Children, Shawn's Parents & Family Members:
THANK YOU, on behalf of millions of Americans, for supporting the commitment & dedication exhibited by the manner in which Shawn lived his life. His service as a Segeant First Class in the U.S. Army serving in a country torn by war is probably just a tip of the iceberg as to how fine a husband, parent, son and family member he truly was.
He served the highest calling of mankind in that he gave his life that others may enjoy the freedom that God wants every person, everywhere, to enjoy.
May his dedication to the mission of America's military and the memories of the years of good times sustain each and every one of you as the years go by. You can be proud of supporting a man whose dedication adds to the bedrock of America which was built on the lives of those who, like Shawn, gave their all that others would be free.
May Shawn, as the hero he proved to be, be the role model that your children choose to follow. My prayers, love and appreciation to your entire families for the gift of Shawn and the way he lived.
Appreciatively and gratefully yours,
Dick Naylor, JOHN 3:16

What a great man. May G_d bless his family. He was, (and I mean this, not just saying it), a better man than I.
What would this Nation do, where would this Nation be without these warriors?
I did not know him, however, I will not forget him.
Most people live lives of quiet, selfish desperation. Not Shawn Dostie. He answered the call.

Mrs. Dostie,
I just wanted to tell you that I will never forget sfc. dostie, he will always be in my mind forever, I will never forget the jokes we threw around, or the qualities he possessed as a person that I strive to gain. I was there the day he was taken from us, I was in the second vehicle of the convoy.
Everyday he spoke about you and his kids, I know hes now watching over you, god will never let a man such as SFC dostie ever be forgotten, his deeds, as a man, as a soldier, as a father will live on, and I will never forget him.
