I wish I could have gotten to know Shawn better. From what I understand, we would have gotten on just fine. I'm a hippie in Colorado. He's my cousin. I miss him, but already missed him since I hadn't seen him in years. The bitterness of regret sucks in time like this. I like to feel like I was touched by his spirit when I was up in Newell, seeing his friends, reconnecting with family, but all I know for sure is that it's a horrific tragedy, and to Ronny and Briana, my heart goes out to you. I wish to God I had 33 years with my son, but I feel like we could agree that even an eternity wouldn't be enough.

I was lucky enough to have Shawn touch my world. He was a person that never let you feel out of place and always had a sense of peace about him. My words cannot do him justice. My heart goes out to all that knew him, especially his family. He has made an everlasting impression on my life, thank you Shawn for being true to yourself and everyone you knew. You are missed...

Expressing sympathy is always difficult, but all we can say is how sorry we are. Shawn was a very special & talented young man and leaves his family and friends with lots of wonderful memories and his pottery will be treasured forever by any of us fortunate to own some pieces.

I knew Shawn as a teacher and community member. Not only was I deeply touched by his great teaching ability but just seeing Shawn walk down the street has been a true inspiration for me to always be true to myself so that I may be true to those around me! I know his Spirit touched my son and daughter as well.
When I think of Shawn Funk, I will always smile, nod my head in a universal "Yes,” and feel a Soul stirring sense of peace.
Blessed Be on your new journey

Shawn was a dear friend and an inspiration to me. We met in a high school Latin class and developed a friendship years later. I loved Shawn for his positive attitude and sense of humor, calming demeanor, artistic and musical talent, love of his family, entrepreneurship, and work ethic. You will be missed, my sweet friend, but never forgotten.

Shawn opened up a new world for my daughter not only musically with uke lessons, but just by being himself. You raised a very special young man who I am honored to have known. Thank you and may God help you through this time.
