Celebrating the Life of Sheila Ann Henson

Sheila Ann Henson, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Celia's House, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Surrounded by the love of her family, Sheila left this world with grace, strength, and her signature warmth. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Heimann Cancer Center, the dedicated Oncology team at Asante, and especially the angels at Celia's House who provided such comfort and care during her final days.

Born April 26, 1949, in Medford, Oregon, Sheila was the eldest of two children. Her younger brother, Robert (Bob) Cretton, entered the world exactly five years later, on the very same day-a unique and beautiful bond that remained unbreakable throughout their lives. From an early age, Sheila was a natural leader and teacher, roles that would shape her life and inspire those fortunate enough to know her.

Sheila's love story began when her family moved from Happy Camp, California, to Central Point, Oregon. There, she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Steve Henson. The two were married on December 20, 1968, in Medford, Oregon, and went on to share 56 wonderful years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and countless adventures.

Family was at the heart of everything Sheila did. Whether it was a lively holiday gathering or an impromptu Sunday dinner, Sheila ensured every moment was full of love-and a competitive card game or two! Her zest for life also shone through in her love of travel and trying her luck at the casino, where she had an uncanny knack for walking away a winner.

A passionate educator, Sheila dedicated her career to shaping young lives. She served as a teacher, dean, and principal, touching the lives of countless students and staff along the way. Sheila found deep fulfillment in helping children build strong foundations for success, always leading with compassion and a belief in their potential. Her impact continues through the generations of students she inspired.

Sheila's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Steve; daughter Jennifer Henson (Kevin); son Chris Henson (Jenn); brother Bob Cretton (Ellen); uncle Shawn Slade; niece Kimberly Disney (Phil) and great-nieces Sydney, Callie, and Maddie; and nephew Sean Cretton. Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved son, Steven Scott Henson, and her parents, Robert "Pipeye" Cretton and Doris "Nan" Cretton.

Sheila will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her dedication to her students and colleagues, and her infectious laughter. Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of kindness, strength, and joy lives on in all who were blessed to know her.

In honor of Sheila's lifelong commitment to education, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Crater Foundation to establish a scholarship in her name for future educators. https://craterfoundation.district6.org/donate/.

A celebration of Sheila's life and joyful spirit will be held on Saturday, October 4th, from 1 PM to 5 PM at 3377 Edella Street, Central Point, OR. Friends and family are invited to share food, drinks, laughter, and cherished memories of a woman who brought so much light to the world.

Mrs. Henson was one of the most caring people I´ve ever had the privilege of knowing. She shaped countless futures and forever changed the trajectory of many children simply through her kindness and genuine care. She gave so much to our community, leaving a lasting legacy of compassion, and made so many of us better human beings just by being herself.

So sad to hear of this news from Travis. Steve and Sheila and the kids used to travel up back in the day for sports. Condolences to the whole family.

I am so sorry to get this news. Sheila was a wonderful, compassionate person who ALWAYS strove to bring out the best in people. She was by far the best boss I ever had. Rest in Peace, Sheila.

Sheila was an amazing warm and wonderful woman making all around her feel loved and welcome. She handled her illness with strength and grace. She will be missed however at all the family card games and get togethers but her spirit will most definitely be with us all.
