Sheila J. Korte

1945-2025

Sheila Korte of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was 80 years old.

She was born in Lima, Ohio on February 18, 1945 to Leo and Evelyn Brickner.

Sheila is survived by her sister, Sharon Schneider and her daughters: Kandise Howman (Jeff), Dixie Ricker, Kim Mullennix (Jesse), and her step-daughter Shelli Graham. She was a proud grandmother to: Kirstie Gross (Chase), Brandi Shelnutt (Jeremy), Colin Howman, and Edward Myers. Her great-grandchildren brought her immense joy: Maya Schlegel (Jonah), Tiana Groves, Eleanor Shelnutt, Beatrice Shelnutt, Phoenix Gross, Evie Gross, Remington Gross, Josephine Gross, and Braydon Myers. She was so excited to get to know her first great-great-grandchild: Isadore Schlegel.

She was preceded in death by her devoted wife of 26 years, Marilyn Graham, her parents Leo and Evelyn Brickner, her step-son Kevin Graham, and her granddaughter Amber O'Dell.

Sheila was a trailblazer, working as an investigator with the Sheriff's department in the 1970's and 80's, as well as a volunteer EMT. After moving to Texas, she was a fraud investigator for a travel company, which enabled her to travel to India where she made lasting friendships. Later, she obtained her private investigator license. She had a compassionate heart and would drop everything at a moment's notice to help a friend or someone in need.

She was passionate about Women's Rights, attending marches and being politically active with the National Organization for Women.

She loved having a full social calendar and entertaining - being a part of many groups in and around San Antonio such as: the Optimist Club, the Alamo Business Council, Dinner Dames, the Red Hat Society, SURJ, book club, and various groups at church. There was always room for another social activity on her calendar.

She built many wonderful and lasting friendships through the years. She touched the hearts of so many people and will be dearly missed.

Her spirit lives on through our wonderful memories with and of her.

"If you have enough money to go to the Dairy Queen, you're rich."
