Dora Eudene Sewell

Surrounded by family and friends, Dora Eudene Sewell, departed this life Aug. 23, 2004, after a courageous battle with ill ness.

Since Dora spent the majority of her adult life in Akron, a memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Dora's life was a testimony of extraordinary faith, in spite of medical adversities. She was born in Lyons, Ga., daughter of Sam and Mary Gray. Dora relocated to Akron in 1945, where she met her husband of 56 years, Horace Sewell. She was an employee of Akron General Medical Center for more than 20 years. Dora was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church for over 40 years, and was a current member of New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Lex ington, S.C.

She is survived by her husband of Lexington, S.C.; son, Michael of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Quinita Sewell; sister, Ruby Carmichael; and brother, Eligah Gray, all of Akron. In addition, she leaves grandchildren, Melanie (Chris) Thompson and Harrison Sewell of Columbus, Ohio, Dante (Julia) Underwood of Altadena, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, brother, Samuel Gray, and sister, Annie Grace Daugherty. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

The family will receive guests from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 327 Cuyahoga St., Akron, Ohio 44310. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donation can be sent to Lexington Medical Center Foundation/Cancer Care Fund, 2720 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, S.C., in her memory. Quinita and Michael, I was saddened to hear of Dora's passing - The last time I saw her was when she and Horace visited me in Hephzibah GA. She was always smiling and always had kind words to say in any situation - I regret that I didn't have a chance to visit them in Lexington - her smile and wonderful personality will always remain in my heart. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

Quinita and Michael, it was a pleasure to have met and known your Mom, she made me feel like a part of the family when I moved to Akron from Pennsylvania as a young child and knew no one. It has been years since we've seen each other, you knew me as Jeannie.

My condolences and deepest sympathy to you and your family.
