Sheri Calaway Cox age 68 of Albany, GA passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009.
Her funeral service will be Thursday 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment to follow in the church garden. The Rev. Mark Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Sheri Calaway Cox was born in Nicoma Park, OK on July 25, 1941. She was the daughter of Ruth M. Calaway and Edgar L. Calaway of Bartlesville, OK.
Sheri started her adult hood when graduating from College High School in 1960, and then moved on to graduating from Rutgers School of Banking. Sheri started and ended her banking career at Regions Bank, where she retired as Senior Vice President of commercial loans.
While Sheri was a career woman, she was also an major impact in the community. She held a resume of committee and voluntary involvement that would make you think she was running for Governor. Some of her notable contributions was her involvement with our youth. Sheri had great involvement in The Boys and Girls club where at one time was the president of the organization, along with being a member of the Boy Scouts Association. In 2000 she had won the Boys and Girls Club National Women's Youth Award.
She also devoted her time to the well being of woman in the community. Sheri was involved in programs such as Women's in Network (WIN), Women's Investment partnership and mentored women interested in starting businesses. Sheri has more than likely impacted everyone who has passed through Albany, GA in some way. It would be almost impossible disagree, being that she was on the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Board, Heart Board.
Sheri Calaway Cox is survived by her son: Donald Lee Sturm, Owasso, OK; her grandson: William Hayden Sturm, Owasso, OK; her granddaughter: Jennifer Annette Sturm, Las Vegas, NV; her great grandson: Mason James Messick, Las Vegas, NV; her sister: Jan Ellen Mills and husband William Hobert Mills, Bartlesville, OK; her nephew: Brian C. To the family:
Sheri and I go way back to childhood, when the Calaways lived across the street from us on Jennings. I remember Sheri going with us to Grand Lake for a weekend in the "cabin."
I remember going camping with her Dad, Ed, a genial big guy who once ate a whole pound of bacon cooked on an open fire under what is now Lake Hudson.
