Sherry Lee Hoppe

Chattanooga - Sherry Lee (Howard) Hoppe, departed this life on Sunday, January 25, 2026 and entered eternity with her God and Savior. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert (Bobby) Hoppe, and loving parents, Kermit and Helen Howard and has always looked forward to being reunited with them in heaven. She is survived by her son Kevin, grandson Ryan, sisters Sylvia Yates and Flavia Fleming, three nieces and one nephew; two grand-nephews and two grand-nieces.

Educated at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Knoxville, Sherry was a teacher and counselor at Chattanooga Valley High before serving in various administrative positions at Chattanooga State. She then served as interim president at Nashville State, President of Roane State Community College and President of Austin Peay State University. After her retirement, Sherry used her life experiences to author several books, including one on the life and historic trial of her husband, two on grief, one on addition, and five devotional books. Her mission was to help those who read her books to focus on God's presence, His everlasting love, His amazing creation, and His help in times of trouble or sorrow.

A memorial service will be held at the Anglican Church of the Redeemer on McBrien Road on Sunday, February 1st at 1:30 PM. At Sherry's request, no visitation will be held. Instead, she asked that family and friends celebrate her richly blessed life by moving on with their own lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Anglican Church of the Redeemer or to Roane State Community College or Austin Peay State University for scholarships.
