Sherry Tobbe Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 14, 2025.
Sherry Rae Tobbe (Sapp), age 70, of Brooks KY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 4, 1954.

Bob's beautiful & beloved soulmate of 54 years. They were inseparable, supporting each other on every path in life. High school sweethearts & lifetime lovebirds. They were best friends. Sherry loved spoiling Bob in every way, especially with her cooking. He loved taking care of her too. They enjoyed camping & traveling all over the country, visiting National Parks, singing favorite John Denver songs, holding hands, spending time at Bernheim, watching soap operas, good movies, cheering on the Cards, times at the Welcome Back cabin at Nolin and just hanging at home together. Gardening was a hobby they enjoyed, especially growing & harvesting blueberries to share with family & friends. Their love of camping was the foundation of their business, Right Stop RV.

After being a dog lover most of her life, along came Ellie... the Camping Cat. Ellie was her little bestie & they had the sweetest bond. Ellie was there for the good & not so good days... always talking to Sherry & keeping her company.

As a loving & devoted mother, Chris & Kimberly were taught to appreciate all of the beautiful things in life with a deep devotion to family. They were her greatest accomplishments. She planned their births perfectly, having them on the same day two years apart. She instilled a love of nature, the arts & music, cooking for others, sitting around a fire, gardening, camping & a good book. She adopted Kimberly's husband, Roland, as her own. "The best son in law ever". They were remarkably similar, sharing the same perspective on many things, but she truly valued his witty, inappropriate humor & his love for Kimberly.

Being a Nana was one of her greatest joys. She loved her grandchildren so fiercely & supported them throughout their lives. She imparted wisdom with tough love & always provided a safe place to land during life's challenges. Nana's Christmas Brunch sure was something special; the most anticipated meal of the year.

Sherry was a wonderful friend & sister to many. From coffee runs, camping trips, shopping, talks of books & movies & lengthy phone calls that included stories about anything & everything, including her precious grandchildren. She brought laughter, positivity, warmth & authenticity to every moment. Her soul was a shining light on Earth.

She obtained her BA in Elementary Education from Spalding University & her Masters in Counseling from Western University. She was proud to be an educator for the Bullitt County Public School System for 23 years & she was cherished in the community. Sherry was "the favorite teacher" for many. She always fought for the best for all children. She proudly protested for KY teachers pensions, with her good friends Becky & Barb. Sherry was a proud democrat, active in the community & standing up for what she believed in.

Although her cancer diagnosis was devastating & eventually took her life, she never let it steal her joy. She found gratitude in every day, knew her truth, lived in faith & her relationship with God was always important to her. Sherry was brave, just like Moana, until the very end.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Bob Tobbe; son, Chris Tobbe; daughter, Kimberly Plott; (Roland); grandchildren, Marlee, Ivy, Ethan, Madeline, Sophia, Penny & Olivia (Chris); great-grandchildren, Drake, Zane, Vera & Aspen; along with her beloved sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws, many treasured nieces, nephews & friends.

In memory of Sherry, please consider making donations to St. Jude's Hospital, Dare to Care, Habitat for Humanity or the Ronald McDonald House in place of flowers.

Sherry's Celebration of Life will take place at Bernheim's Garden Pavillion from 2-5 pm on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025. Please feel free to wear your favorite pair of jeans in Sherry's honor... she'd want you to be comfortable.

I moved away from Louisville over 40 years ago so my memories of Sherry are from a long time ago. She was always so sweet and gentle. I know she will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her. For all the family, I will be praying for you. Like the poem "Foot prints in the Sand" says, when we are weak He will carry us.
I love you all.

Sherry is unforgettable and inspirational. Words are inadequate, but like the sign says "Be Kind," we could all hope to "Be like Sherry." We that knew her for any amount of time were lucky....she will be missed. Prayers for Bob and all the children and grandchildren.

Sherry had a way of making you feel that you were so important to the fabric of the room. I treasure the conversations of sharing my teaching journey with her and always benefitted from her sage advice. Her brilliant smile, humor, genuine interest and curiosity in others was such a joy to experience.

What a beautiful person! When I met Sherry in high school, I knew immediately what a gem she was. I don't remember why, but she came to my church for a few weeks one summer, and our friendship was sealed forever. Although our later paths went in opposite directions, she was always part of that golden time in my memories. Trustworthy, sweet, loving, kind and innocent in so many ways---She was a pure soul. My heart is sad for this loss. Praying for her family, especially dear, good-hearted Bob.

So many fun things I could say about Sherry but this one was ongoing through the years. Whenever and wherever we were going, Sherry would call me and say, " You know I´m a jeans girl so that´s what I´m wearing." I was not a "jeans girl", so I would tell her that her choice was fine but I would dress less casual. We would both laugh. We were both only children but no more than we met we became sisters. We had the same interests and goals for ourselves. I loved her dearly and will miss her until I pass from this life. Barb Doyle
