Shirley Amicone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2012.
1930 ~ 2012
Shirley Birch Amicone, 82, passed away peacefully due to causes incidental to age on November 15, 2012 at the Atria Sandy Senior Living Center where she resided for the last six months in Sandy, Utah.
Shirley was born on May 14, 1930, to John and Myrtle Birch in Murray, Utah. She graduated from Murray High School.
She married "Jim" James Eugene Amicone on October 17, 1948. They were happily married for sixty-three years before his death on September 8, 2011. She worked closely alongside Jim to establish little league, Babe Ruth and American Legion baseball programs in the Granger area.
She played for the Utah Shamrocks women's fastpitch softball team during the 1940s. She loved golf, and she was the proud owner of her own hole-in-one, but she loved even more how often it brought her family together. More than anything, however, she loved to go to the ballpark and watch her sons, grandsons and daughter-in-law play baseball and softball. She never missed a game and may have seen more ballgames than any woman in Utah! She was known for her sweet and gentle nature, and she spent the majority of her life thinking about others rather than herself.
She worked for more than 20 years at Valley Bank & Trust as a teller and teller supervisor.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Desiree) of South Jordan, Utah, and Marc (Mary Kay) of Sandy, Utah; two grandsons, Trevor and Derek; brothers, Jack Birch (Heidi) of Murray, Utah, Ronald Birch (Cherie) of Murray, Utah, and sister Terry Rozema (Ron) of Riverton, Utah.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Jim, sister Virginia Markus, brother Larry Birch, and infant brother James Roscoe Birch.
Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff at Atria Sandy for their love and support of Mom over the past six months as well as her caregivers from Pine Mountain Hospice, especially her friend Minie.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary located at 5850 South 900 East in Murray. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary, where friends may call prior to the service at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Mountain View Memorial Cemetery located at 3115 East 7800 South in Sandy immediately following the funeral service.

There may have been many miles between us but you were always in my heart, Aunt Shirley. Jimmie & Marc....your mother was such a beautiful person & anyone that knew her loved her. She's at peace now, no more pain & suffering. One day we will all be together again & what a reunion that will be. Our family was built on love & the memories will live on for generations to come. I love you all so very much. Rest peacefully, Auntie. Until we meet again......... <3

Dear Marc, Mary Kay, Trevor and Derek,
I am so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. I could never get over what terrific grand parents both Jim and Shirley were. They were crazy about Trevor and Derek, they loved them so much. They seemed to always be there to help and support your family in whatever way they could. I'm also sure I only saw a small fraction of all they were to you all! My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.

With love ,

My condolences to your family. If I was lucky then I would get to drive Shirley to her appointments a few years ago when I was working for a car service. She was so sweet! She would tell me all kinds of wonderful stories about her sons and her husband. After the car service folded I used to drive past her house on my way to somewhere and the memory of her would make me smile. I often wondered where she was and if I had known I would visited her. Rest in peace Shirley. God has a special place for you because you were very special. In Christian love....Luetta LaMatry

Jimmy, I just read about your mothers passing and she sounds like a great mother and sports fan. Just know that our prayers and thoughts are with you and Desiree.

My gentle sister is now at peace and resting beside the rest of our family as they greeted her with open arms and huge welcomed hugs. I am so saddened by her leaving but so happy she is no longer in pain. Know how much you are all loved. Aunt Terry and Uncle Ron
