Shirley and i were close friends for many years, starting in boston at a ywca in 1964. we became friends, and then roommates, until her marriage. i moved to the west coast in 1969,but continued to keep in touch. i flew back - from california one year for a weekend only, to visit her, not even telling my family - who were on the cape - she was in boston. i also visited her in owego, and enjoyed meeting and sledding with her young family. i also would visit her on the island whenever i was on the cape. unfortunately, we lost touch years ago. i tried to get in touch with her, but it never seemed to work out. she was a big part of my life, and i love her dearly. my sympathies the family. love, judy (carlson) green

I was so sorry of Queenie´s passing! She was a dear friend. She became Queenie while teaching us how to use the computer. No matter what was wrong all she had to do was come over to us and do her magic and fix everything!! Another gift she had was keeping secrets (I think it had to do with a paperclip). The week that Matthew came home in 2005 to surprise Tommy at his graduation I knew I would be able to tell your mom and she would keep it. I loved being able to have her to talk with. When she went home to care for her parents every weekend I worried that she would stay there. She promised me that she would let me know when that happened by putting one of her polar bears in my mailbox. That day finally came. I still have the polar bear on my dresser! Queenie will be missed!

I was so sorry to hear of Shirley´s passing although I always called her Queenie!! She was our computer `queen!´ Whenever I had a question or problem all she would have to do is walk over to the computer and it would automatically be fixed. That was when we started calling her `Queenie!´ One of her greatest gifts was keeping secrets (I think it had to do with that paperclip!). The week that Matthew came home to surprise Tommy at his graduation there was only one person I told...Queenie!! It was wonderful having her to share that secret with!! When she was going home every weekend to take care of her parents I was always afraid that she wouldn´t come back. She promised me that before she left she would leave one of her polar bears in my mailbox. That day came and I still have him on my dresser!! My memories of her are all special!! She will be missed!!

Shirley was such a beautiful soul. She had such a big heart and lots of love to share with those who crossed her path. I will miss having our long chats and hearing her calming voice. She was a very special person and the memories I share of her will be forever cherished in my heart.
