Shirley J. Devine, 84, of Iowa City, died Monday, July 25, 2011, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Shirley Hall Devine was born December 10, 1926; daughter of James W. and Mildred Taylor Hall in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended school in Des Moines graduating from East High School in 1944. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University in 1948, and taught school in Des Moines. She married George Kerr Devine in Iowa City February 5, 1949. They were parents of three sons – G.K. of Lawton, OK, Jim of Shellsburg and Randy of Iowa City. Shirley is survived by her three sons, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother, Bob Hall and numerous extended family. Shirley is survived by her three sons; nine grandchildren, Lindsay Hall, Karen Cooksey, Michael Devine, Stephanie Eason, Courtney Swanson, Dan Devine, Tyler Devine, Emily Devine and Zachary Devine; nin great-grand children, Michael and Brooks Hale, Carson and Colin Cooksey, Katelyn Devine, Wesley and Sydney Eason, Lukas and Katie Devine; brother, Bob Hall as well as numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents, an infant sister and sister, Margot Ann Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation service in Iowa City is caring for Shirley’s family and her services.
