Shirley Gutierrez Obituary

Shirley Dawson Gutierrez passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018, at the age of 83. She was a native and long-time resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and was a member of University Baptist Church. Shirley is survived by her husband of 63 years, Humberto "Bert" Gutierrez; sons, Samuel Eric Gutierrez, Robert Glynn Gutierrez and wife Laura, and Hubert Barton Gutierrez and wife Mignonne; daughter, Diana Gutierrez Richards and husband Philip; grandchildren, Kathryn Gutierrez, Alaina Mancuso, Tanner Gutierrez, Zane Kirby, Katie Trahan, Eileen Scroggin, Erin Richards, Anna Richards, Abigail Richards, Grace Gutierrez, Elise Gutierrez; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ada Dawson; sister, Lorraine Woods; and nephews, Bob Woods and Sam Woods. There will be a private burial at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley's name to The American Heart Association or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I love the Gutierrez family. I still have pictures of us playing as children. Ricky, Diana, Glen, Bart, and Mr. Gutierrez, my deepest sympathy. My mother was so fond of Ms. Gutierrez, and Texye, Billie and I just loved all the siblings. I can still remember how little Texye and Bart were, and I always remember Ms. Gutierrez working in the yard. God bless all of you and may Christ comfort you. I'm so happy she got to live a long life.
