Shirley Hyatt, 89, of Cheboygan, Mich., and Green Valley, AZ passed away Nov. 16, 2015. She was born Dec. 12, 1925 in Quincy, IL, to Helen and Theodore McPheeters. At age 6 the family moved to Yonkers, NY, where she began her life as a city girl. Shirley graduated from Gorton HS in 1944 and from business school in NYC. She was employed as a secretary at the RCA Building, Rockefeller Center, NYC.

She met her husband, James F. Hyatt, while he was stationed in the Brooklyn Navy Yard during WWII. They were married June 21, 1947 and then resided in Michigan and later in Green Valley, Ariz.

Shirley was a former member of the Cheboygan Area Arts Council, and a volunteer at the Cheboygan Opera House, former member of the Seedums Garden Club and the Cheboygan Beautification Committee. She loved acting since she was a child and was a member of Northland Player, appearing in several Northland Players productions. Her favorite roll was Yente, in "Fiddler on the Roof," which she played in 1977 and again in 1997. She was a keen bridge player and member of the "Dinner Bridge Club" since 1966.

Shirley was a member of Church of the Straits of Mackinaw City and Good Shepherd Church in Sahuarita, AZ, where she was active in the Women's Fellowship, the Los Amigos club, chairwoman of three antique evaluation shows, and participated in Spanish classes and trips to Guatemala.

She is survived by daughter Gwen of Tucson, AZ, sons Greg of Austin TX, Gordon of Chicago, IL and Glen (Susan) of Holt, MI, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She will join her husband, Jim who passed away in 2014 and son, Gary who passed away in 1977.

A memorial service was held at Good Shepherd Church on Friday, Nov. 20, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Good Shepherd Church, noted in Memo Line, Probigua Scholarship Fund.
