Shirley J. Krogstad, 83, of Preston,died Wednesday evening (June 15, 2016) at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

Shirley was born April 25, 1933, in Carimona Township, Fillmore County, the daughter of Raymond and Alma (Clark) Barnes. She was a 1951 graduate of Preston High School. She married Keith Krogstad on Sept. 5, 1952, in Preston. The couple made their home on the Krogstad family farm for the majority of their married life, except for nine years in Rochester. She worked for Northwestern Bell and AT&T in Preston and then Rochester for 31 years.

She was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. She loved everyone but especially her family. She also loved gardening and reading.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Keith; a daughter, Janet (Mike) Erdman of Lakeville, Minn.; grandchildren, Katie (Nick) Kaiser of Minnetonka, Minn., Faith (Joel) Krogstad of St. Paul, and Eli Erdman of Lakeville, Minn.: great-grandchildren, Sula and Espen Krogstad of St. Paul; and two sisters, Marion (Arlyn) Severson of Mesa, Ariz., and Margery (Terry) Tinan of Colorado Springs, Colo. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patty Krogstad; a sister, Olive May Means; and brothers, Warren Barnes and Norman Barnes.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston, with the Rev. Dan Bredberg officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston at a later date. Friends may call an hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston is assisting the family with arrangements.
