Shirley Oxley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 15, 2025.
Shirley Lee Oxley (Quintal) passed away on September 29, 2025, just days short of her 101st birthday. She was a jitterbug at heart and danced several days a week in her 90's with the second love of her life, Bernie Flegelman up until she lost the use of a leg due to shingles at 95. She loved sewing, old movies, soap operas, cats and her kids. Shirley was born in Minneapolis on October 15, 1924 and graduated from North High in 1942. She always had a smile on her face and even as she went through abject poverty during the depression, she never lost her sunny disposition.

Married to Earl Oxley in 1946, they had two sons (Dave and Mike) and built a house in 1952 in South Minneapolis before moving to Edina in 1962. She taught dance at the Marigold Ballroom during World War II and was a member of several dance clubs with Earl throughout their marriage. She lived the typical life of a mother in the 1950s-60s and was keeper of the family, household and all things traditional.

She is survived by her sons, preceded in death by Earl, her mother Lilly and father George, her sister Virginia, her half brother Phillip and her twin brother Lee who died at age two.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, October 22,2025 at 5:30 pm with visitation one hour prior at: Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home, 1400 Mainstreet, Hopkins. 952-938-9020
