Shirley May (Bomm) Petersen was born on May 28, 1928, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Ansel and Esther (Trotzig) Bomm. Shirley was baptized as an infant on June 9, 1928, by Rev. A. F. Lundquist, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 10, 1942, by Rev. Ernst Martell both at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, Minnesota. She received her education in Winthrop, Minnesota, and graduated with the Winthrop High School Class of 1946. Shirley grew up in Winthrop. After high school, she worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and San Diego, California, as an office manager. On October 8, 1965, Shirley was united in marriage to Russell Petersen. Shirley and Russell made their home in Victoria and then in 1971, moved to Glencoe, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Andy, Katy, John and Susan. Shirley and Russell shared 47 years of marriage. Shirley was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a faithful member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glencoe, where she was a member of the Women's Fellowship and Ladies Aid. Shirley was an empathetic, fun and selfless person, always putting others first. She enjoyed knitting, golfing, traveling, outdoor activities at the cabin, outings with her daughters and visits from her grandchildren. Shirley especially cherished the time spent with her family and friends. Shirley passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 6 days. Blessed be her memory. Shirley is survived by her: Husband, Russell Petersen of Glencoe, MN; Children, Andy Petersen and his wife, Sue, of Winona, MN, Katy Scrimgeour and her husband, Rick, of St. Bonifacius, MN, John Petersen and his wife, Beth, of Glencoe, MN, Susan Brickzen and her husband, Bill, of Glencoe, MN; 6 Grandchildren, Justine Petersen, Katelyn Petersen, Addy Scrimgeour, Isabel Petersen, Dane Petersen, Grace Brickzen; Sister, Janice Tifft and her husband, Don, of Glencoe, MN; Brother, John Bomm of San Diego, CA; Sister-In-Law, Deloris "Dode" Bomm of San Diego, CA; Childhood Friend, Aggie Pierce; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and many friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her Parents, Ansel and Esther Bomm.
