Shirley Schmidt

SCHMIDT--Shirley. The family of Shirley Schmidt mourns the loss of their mother on August 27, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Brooklyn in 1929, she immigrated to Israel in 1954. 10 years later, she and her husband, Simon Schmidt, founded CBS Records/Israel. In 1977, Shirley Schmidt was named head of CBS/Israel, the first woman to lead a record company for CBS. An elegant woman, with remarkable grace and style, she was devoted to her family, her profession, and Judaism, a heritage of which she was fiercely proud. She is survived by her beloved children, Michal and Zeev Michael, a niece, nephews and countless friends. A memorial service will take place Wednesday morning, 9:30am, at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Avenue at 91st Street. Burial will take place in Tel Aviv.
