Shirley Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 4, 2011.
A peaceful spirit and kind heart, Shirley Jean young of Yukon, OK ascended into Jesus' loving arms on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Shirley was an easy going and compassionate sole, who will be greatly missed. Born August 29, 1932 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Alfred and Ida Mae Soderman, Shirley was the eldest child, with two half siblings from Ida Mae's second marriage. She married Nick Felix and had three children; Nick Steven, Sherri Lee, and Janice Lynn. They lived in a number of places including Alaska and New Mexico but she eventually settled in Dallas to raise her family. During her younger days, Shirley enjoyed dancing, singing, playing BINGO, and doing crossword puzzles. She loved sports, especially basketball and football, favoring Dallas Cowboys and OKC Thunder. Shirley later remarried Kenneth Young. They had many happy years together in Texas but eventually moved to Oklahoma to be closer to family. The inseparable couple was known around town for their friendly smiling faces. Shirley is survived by her husband Kenneth Young, children Nick Steven Felix, Sherri and husband Kevin Poe, and Janice and husband Chris Frantz, her grandchildren Amber and husband Rob Perkins, Heather Johnson, Nicholas (Tony) Felix, Hayden Frantz; and great grandchildren; Adaire Perkins, Colin Perkins, Noah Perkins, Jacilyn Johnson, and Sophia Perkins. Shirley was loved by all that knew her. She will surely be in heaven to greet us at the gate with her signature phrase, "Fancy meeting you here!"

I never remember a negative word ever coming out of Aunt Shirley's mouth. There is no doubt in my mind she is in a place walking with those who left before us. I will try to remember that blessing she gave me. Just be kind!!
