Sidney's veteran brothers and sisters at the Springfield Vet Center are so sorry for your loss, our loss and the loss to the community. Sid was such a kind and gentle man, who's warm heart made us all feel better when he was in the room.
His understated manner included downplaying his military service and heroism and all that he gave for our country! Bless you all at this time,
Dr. Stan Huff, Springfield Vet Center.

Dear Alan, David and the Goldman family,
I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. He was one of Springfield's preeminent citizens and a very productive, honest and honorable man. I am amazed at how much he did, especially during his later years.
Thank you Mr. Goldman for your courageous and distinguished service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. And thank you for your incredible dedication to education during your lifetime.
A man's legacy is often determined not just by what he did during his life but by what he leaves after him. Based on my knowledge of both of you, Alan and David,
he was truly a very special father and human being. I'm sure he was justifiably proud of you.
May God bless both of you, all of your family and Mr. Goldman now and forever. Rest In Peace and Godspeed Mr. Goldman.

Over the many years that I've belonged to the Y, I came to know Sid as one of the "regulars" ! He always went out of his way to stop and talk with everybody! He knew no strangers and never treated one as a stranger!
He, along with many of the long time members, were/ are truly a league of extraordinary gentlemen!
God bless him on his journey home and lend comfort to his family!

Without a doubt, one of the nicest men I have ever met. The kindness he showed to Ruth was a lesson all men could learn from. Now they can be together again.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known Sid and Ruth for so many years. They were the best of the best. Our shared memories go back to the 1920's when Sid and Bob and I lived across Vine Street from each other. That was when the iceman shaved off chunks of ice from the big block on his wagon and gave to us kids to cool off on a hot summer day. The fruit and vegetable wagon was horse drawn, and the milkman came before dawn seven days a week. That was a long and happy acquaintance for us. My sincere condolence to Sid and Ruth's family.

What a pleasure and privilege to have known Sid for so many years. We shared the same memories of growing up on Vine Street in the 1920's, the iceman chipping ice for us kids to cool us off in the summer heat, the horse drawn fruit and vegetable wagon, milk delivered every day before dawn.. He and Ruth were the best of the best and will be greatly missed. My condolence to their family.

Sidney was and is a wonderful wonderful human being. I only knew him from the Y, but my goodness, was that a treat!! He was such a man of sincere goodwill. This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but he and Shelby Harbison would start singing together in the Men's Health Center open shower stalls...and next thing you know, that whole dang shower troupe was singing! I'm not kidding!! In the shower of all places!!
Sounds a little goofy and perhaps strange, but to know Sid just a little bit...it made perfect sense. Only knew him over last 10 years, but his love for other people was so absolutely sincere. What a sweet, well-accomplished, and tremendously-thought-of human being. The thought of Sid not being here with us makes me sad, but my oh my...thank you for the memories Sidney!!!! (and Shelby!!!) I doubt I'll ever walk into the downtown YMCA again without thinking of you. God bless you Goldman family. WHAT A TREASURE Sidney Goldman became!!!

SI knew Sid through my late husband Larry. They were both in the early morning exercisers at the Y. When ever we would meet Sid he would praise my husband to the sky about his exercising abilities. He was always so friendly and kind. He will be missed, but they are all somewhere working out together.
