I was blessed to be an honorary part of the Wasserman family. Leslie and I met when the family moved to Rockville Centre when we were 11 years old. We became sisters for life and her parents were an integral part of my life. I remember spending time on a Wasserman family vacation to the Host Farm in Pennsylvania..going with Leslie & her Dad to Brooklyn to the Aquarium and to his dental office ..or spending time together at sleep away camp visiting day.
I was a privileged to be a part of his final years..watching him forge such a deep bond with Leslie..which I know meant the world to both of them..He referred to me as his " other daughter" and that had so much meaning for me.
He lived a wonderful life and his legacy lives on thru his children and grandchildren..He will be missed..

Today while x country skiing starting out tiring.
My thoughts turned to Pop.
When I was 10 and Pop 44 we used to go across the street and run around the Hewitt School fields. I used to get so winded starting out and Pop would bring up "getting your second wind".
I had no idea what he was talking about and I never experienced a second wind phenomena back then, just breathlessness.
Well now I usually get a second wind and had a noticeable one today.
Here´s to second winds Pop.

Many of my most vivid memories stem from long car rides together. Pop would impart his wisdom and sophisticated sense of humor. For example, we would all play trivia games though he chose not to. When we asked him to play, he said no because he had to be the judge. We would stop for lunch off the highway -- he would take the dumbbells out of the trunk and have me do a few sets with him. This was my early introduction (14 years old or so) to weight training, something that has stayed with me to this day. I credit pop with teaching me the fundamentals of strength and fitness. Your body is a temple he would say, though moderation was the key to enjoying the result. We went to museums together from a young age and Pop, being a student of history would educate with more knowledge than I could retain. However, over time this gave me a thirst for learning -- and in more recent years after a trip to a foreign city, we were always so excited to share what we learned and the great photos we had taken. Pop's greatest joy was family and it was such a blessing not only for him to meet but get to know his great-grandchildren: "four-generations" he would say with such pride. Pop was larger than life and his spirt lives on in all of us.
