Sie was born on May 1st, 1944 in Billings, Montana to Timothy Mares and Eloisa (Roybal) Mares.
Sie’s father was a Protestant minister, and his mother was also very much involved in the church. Sie and his siblings were raised and grew in the church where they were taught the word of God.
In 1946 at the age of two; Sie’s parents moved the family from Billings, Montana to Denver, Colorado. In 1948 they moved to Greeley, Colorado and in 1950 they moved and settled in Sterling, Colorado where Sie attended school and graduated from Sterling High School in 1962.
Sie met Paula Jane (Albrandt) Mares in 1964; fell head over hills and they married in Sterling, Colorado that same year on April 23rd.
In May of 1965 Sie and Paula moved to California. Sie got a job at Thums, an offshore drilling and production company where he worked for 30 years as an Island Coordinator and retired in 1998. He loved work so much that he went back for approximately another 12 years as a Drilling Consultant.
Sie loved football, fishing, hunting, camping, and playing golf. His passion was spending time with his wife and best friend of fifty-seven years, Paula, as well as his four children, sixteen grandchildren, and his many friends.
Sie was a man of few words but was well liked and respected by all.
Sie is survived by his wife Paula and their four children, Rachelle May Lee (Mares) Snell, Bryan Scott Mares, Paul Allen Mares, Shawna Marie Mares. their biological granddaughter Cheyenne Paulena Mares who they lovingly adopted in 2010.
He also leaves behind his additional fifteen beloved grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Throughout my whole life my Grandfather was a huge role model to me. He was always a man who would do anything for his family, family was always first. He had the biggest heart of gold. He is extremely loved and will be deeply missed by so many . I will cherish all of the wonderful memories that I have shared with my grandpa. He may be gone but he will certainly never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Grandpa

Dear Grandpa, I can't even think of a way to start this, The only way I could think of to begin is, You were the best grandfather I could have ever asked for in this world and I am blessed to have the privilege to have you as a grandpa, As well as having the honor to see you everyday. You were an amazing man that would do everything for his family and did do everything. Ever since I was first born, from as far as I could even remember you have always been right there caring and loving for not only me but for the rest of the family as well, because that was the type of person you were, a man with a heart of gold. You were my second father, you played a huge part of my life and a huge inspiration to me, I wouldn't have it any other way. I am very honored to have such an amazing role model I could look up to my whole life, your bravery, your confidence, and all the love you showed to your family everyday I will idolize and will forever be remembered. I still remember has if it was only yesterday, I was sitting in the living room along with my grandpa, we were having an conversation about my writing and what he told me will stick in my head for the rest of my life. He told me to never give up and keep going, I promise you grandpa I will never stop, I will make you proud. I can speak for everyone when I say, you will be missed dearly grandpa, Just the thought of you not being here with us, hurts so much and will be very difficult to move past. It breaks my heart to think you wont physically be there for my graduation but I just know you will be there, standing above us, looking down at me, proud along with a huge smile on your face. I wish a thousand times I could have more time with you, just to even hear your comforting voice again, no matter how hard it is and how bad it hurts I have learned to accept that. I am sure he wouldn't want to see us all so upset so I will be strong for you grandpa. I know how much you loved this family and rest assure that you will never, ever be forgotten and remembered as the loving, caring amazing man you were. You left this world with such a positive impact on every life you touched. I'll miss you, Rest in peace, and I love you Grandpa.

When I read Sie was a man of few words. Yes that is how I remember uncle Sie. At family gatherings most everyone would be talking and if I looked over at Sie he would have a big smile on his face. He enjoyed his family. I am sorry to hear of his passing. Hugs to his family and especially Aunt Paula.
