I met Siegfried for the first time last summer. Being German myself we immediately connected and he invited me to visit him at his Canyon cabin but we did not go. We just came back into town and today went to the Deli and found out that Siefried passed away last April. I have only known him very briefly but I noticed his kindness, sense of humor, love for all mankind. My heart is aching and I am very sad that I will not see him again. My prayers and love to his family for their incredible loss.

I am Walter and Edith's daughter. I knew Siegfried but not well. I have several memories with him. I remember swimming in his pool that he had in the basement. I also remember that he catered my wedding. He also knew my in-laws, Rita Lawson. I am sad for the loss we all share. --Diana Stegner

The old adage is true...if you don't have time to do it now, when will you! We were always going to take off one afternoon and go for a ride together. Your bright smile will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to your family.

I met Siegfried when I was 15 and a newly baptized member of the LDS Church. He was in the Bishopric of my ward. Under his influence we had a really close youth group. I don't ever remember him being called Bro. Meyer only Siegfried or Ziggy. He let us swim in the basement pool at his house on 9th and organized outings to Bear Lake. He taught me how to fast and to pray when I needed to make an important decision and how to talk to Heavenly Father just like He was a real person and list out the pros and cons of the decision I was trying to make. It's a process I use to this day. When I returned home from my mission to Germany, he kindly hired me to work at his delicatessen and when I showed up the first day in a dress-still in missionary mode-he let me know that it was okay to wear pants again and that I didn't need to engage his customers in conversations about religion :) When I got engaged, Siegfried is one of the first people I wanted to introduce my future husband to. We lost contact and then one summer as we were driving up Lamb's canyon to go to my grandma's cabin we saw Siegfried working outside his newly purchased cabin. He had a soft ice cream machine and gave my kids each an ice cream cone and that is what they always remembered him for. After losing contact again, I was surprised to receive a random phone call wishing me a Happy Birthday! It was Siegfried and he was getting his hair cut by my sister-in-law, Maxine. The reason for the call is that he'd just discovered we shared the same Birthday!!! We had been friends for almost 35 years and never knew that about each other. I am sorry this is so lengthy, but I don't know who to contact to share these memories with. I love this man and will always be grateful for his influence in my life.

Seigfried made life easier/possible for the 4 of us trying to live in the upper canyon year round. His efforts to plow to his place were truly heroic. He was a great friend and one you could always count for help. His solstice parties were always the social event of the season. He was a truly kind and caring person. Elaine and I will miss him always.

Unsereren Herzlichen Beileid an die ganze Familie. We are deeply sorry to hear of your loss.

April 25, 2016

Over the past 10 years, we had the wonderful opportunity to get to know Siegfried as a cabin owner in the Lower Lambs Canyon Association. He was a kind generous man and always willing to offer assistance. When he wanted to view the canyon from a higher altitude, he would come up to our cabin, sit on the deck and soak in the view of the canyon. We will all miss Siegfried at our annual canyon owner's meetings, where he would often prepare his famous Brats.

From our family to your, please accept our condolences for the loss of this great man.

I have many fond memories of Siegfried when we lived next door in the early seventies. And eating at the deli for so many years. This community will not be the same without him.

I will always have such good memories of Siegfried and his wonderful family; especially the many times spent at the house on 9th East. An intelligent, humorous, talented, and compassionate man. As I type this through my tears, I can only say "you will be missed."

Dear Helga and Family,

I am saddened to hear of Siegfried's passing! I have fond childhood memories of going to the delicatessen with my parents, Ted and Gloria Evans, and getting pastrami, gouda cheese, pumpernickel bread, chocolate eclairs, and the best gummy bears in the world! In the 1970's, gummy bears were a very special treat we would only have when we went on long road trips. My brothers and I would have contests to see who could make their bear last the longest. It was so hard to not chew them!

Helga and all the family, we love you and pray that the peace of the Prince of Peace will rest on you in this most tender time!

So sorry for your loss. Some of my very favorite memories growing up were at the Meyer house. The rope bridge, the swimming pool, the lentil soup, the sleepovers, the food, the cabin, the deli, snowmobile trips, the fun and mischief. Hold onto those cherished memories and your father will continue to live on. Losing a parent is beyond tough and sad. Know that there are many others here to support and help you. Your family is our thoughts and prayers

I had the pleasure of being a business associate with Siegfried when he had the deli. He was one a my favorite customers. When I left the meat industry to open a custom motorcycle shop with my husband, somehow Siegfried found our little shop. He became an awesome customer, bringing amazing input, sausages and invites to his parties. It has been a privilege to know him professionally and personally. We at DIRTYRATMOTOCYCO will miss his enthusiasm, friendship, and of course, THE SAUSAGES!. Siegfried, you were a true down to earth amazing intelligent human being. It was on honor to be in your presence. Love and condolences to your family and friends. Rest in peace and ride that highway!
Love your family @ DIRTYRAT...

We've only known Siegfried since 2012 when we got our cabin in Lambs Canyon. We love visiting, talking, and the kids especially like feeding the fish! Siegfried dug me out of the snow more than once and rushed me to the ER when I broke my ribs from a fall! He's always been very kind and friendly to us. He'd tease me for the longest time as I'd bring my kids with me but not my wife, questioning if she really existed, but finally they did meet. We'll miss him, his friendship, and pray for his loved ones through this difficult time.
