Sigrid Owen Obituary
A graduate of the Cologne Art Institute, Sigrid was a brilliant artist and staunch conservationist. She built a multifaceted career that spanned commercial photography, painting, and ceramics. Her work reflected an impeccable eye for detail and a kinship with the natural world. Whether behind the lens or shaping clay with her hands, she expressed herself with beauty and clarity.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Sigrid was a founding member of the thriving Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, subsequently named after Evelyn Alexander. In this capacity, Mrs. Owen rehabilitated over 500 swans, including her very own Peep, Gloria, and Peter. Her indefatigable commitment to animal welfare and environmental stewardship has left an enduring impact on the South Fork. Through this work, she created sanctuaries for injured and orphaned wildlife, ensuring their care and rehabilitation.
Sigrid was the loving wife of Burt Owen and beloved mother of Christopher Owen, both of whom predeceased her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she graced through her art, activism, and tremendous joie de vivre.

I remember Sigrid encouraging me when we first started the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons. She told me when I was nervous about it failing "You're not alone; we are all here to help you." I will never forget how relieved that made me feel and how she came through and did make it the success that it was.

I was so sorry to hear of Sigrid's passing. As President of the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, Sigrid brought much to the table and brought notoriety to the organization. She started the organization's quarterly newsletter and held many fundraising events. As the organization's founder, I know I will miss her dearly.
