Simon Timothy Morgan Allard

September 26, 1965 - December 4, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Timothy Morgan Allard on December 4, 2024, at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with ALS. A devoted son, husband, father, brother and friend, Simon's life was marked by his insatiable curiosity, love for learning, and steadfast commitment to those he loved.

Born on September 26, 1965 to Anne and Paul in Pontypool, Wales, Simon spent his childhood in London, where he cultivated an adventurous spirit and a deep passion for science and education. His academic journey began at King's College London, where he earned a B.Sc. in Microbiology. He continued his education at the University of Oxford, earning a PGCE in Science Education, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Management from Kingston University. Simon then pursued an M.Sc. in Clinical Microbiology at Queen Mary University of London, culminating in a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of St Andrews. He later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which brought him to the United States.

Simon dedicated 14 years of his life as a professor of Microbiology at Madison College, where teaching was not only his career but his passion. He inspired students with his depth of knowledge, captivating teaching style, and unwavering enthusiasm for the subject. Simon found immense joy in nurturing the minds of future scientists, leaving an enduring legacy in the academic community.

Simon was a devoted husband to Keri Allard and a proud father to their children, Victoria and Henry, who were his greatest source of pride and joy. Known for his dark sense of humor, kind heart, and love of life, Simon enriched the lives of his family and friends with his sharp wit, warmth, and boundless support.

Outside the classroom and his family life, Simon was a storyteller, thinker, and adventurer. He was known for his British charm, love for the finer things in life, and commitment to living life to its fullest. His generosity, humor, and passion for making a difference left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Simon is survived by his wife, Keri; his children, Victoria and Henry; his brother and sister-in-law Martin and Su; his nephews, Max, Jack, and Harry; and countless friends and extended family members who will cherish his memory.

Simon had a Living Wake in the fall of 2024 to celebrate his life. The family will have a private celebration of life for Simon in Mallorca this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the ALS Association or the Team Gleason, honoring Simon's courage and his commitment to making the world a better place.

Simon's legacy of love, laughter, and light will forever remain in our hearts.

I started working with Simon at the old Epicentre Biotechnologies in the early 2000s. We had a great time working together, I think of him as a great friend, excellent teacher and an overall fun gut. Met his wife, Keri, at Great Dane pub in town and watched as the two of them grew as a couple and after as a family after Henry and Victoria were born.

I miss him terribly and find constant reminders now that I am working in the same building as when he and I first met and worked together.

I took Simon in when he first came to Ivan and Hazel's lab. He came without living arrangements and was going to stay in a hotel. I convinced Brett that Simon needed a home until he got his own.
I appreciated many things about him; his humor, pronunciation of 'ibuprofen,' his story telling, his luck and was jealous of his ability to have a good time. I didn't appreciate the pictures he posed for after a karaoke night at Pedros on my forgotten camera. Oui to the poor person who developed that film.
I'm glad I met him and that he created such a beautiful family. I always thought he would be an excellent teacher (if he could stay on the subject) and it sounds like he really was.
I am sorry for the void he leaves in everyone's heart.
I will think of him often.
I'm sorry for your loss and hope his memory helps ease the pain.
Love- Cathy Grutzmacher (lab tech UW Madison, Biochemistry)
