I started working with Simon at the old Epicentre Biotechnologies in the early 2000s. We had a great time working together, I think of him as a great friend, excellent teacher and an overall fun gut. Met his wife, Keri, at Great Dane pub in town and watched as the two of them grew as a couple and after as a family after Henry and Victoria were born.
I miss him terribly and find constant reminders now that I am working in the same building as when he and I first met and worked together.

I took Simon in when he first came to Ivan and Hazel's lab. He came without living arrangements and was going to stay in a hotel. I convinced Brett that Simon needed a home until he got his own.
I appreciated many things about him; his humor, pronunciation of 'ibuprofen,' his story telling, his luck and was jealous of his ability to have a good time. I didn't appreciate the pictures he posed for after a karaoke night at Pedros on my forgotten camera. Oui to the poor person who developed that film.
I'm glad I met him and that he created such a beautiful family. I always thought he would be an excellent teacher (if he could stay on the subject) and it sounds like he really was.
I am sorry for the void he leaves in everyone's heart.
I will think of him often.
I'm sorry for your loss and hope his memory helps ease the pain.
Love- Cathy Grutzmacher (lab tech UW Madison, Biochemistry)
