Smitty was my friend and the best neighbor I ever had. I never had a brother, but he was the closest I ever could have wished for. I lived next door to him for over 20 years as a widow with a child and he helped us with so many neighborly deeds. May you rest in peace, Smitty. We loved you.

I had lived with "uncle" Smith for over 14 wonderful years. He was my best friend, uncle, father, and grand father all in one. I was very lucky to have had an opportunity to receive love, support and guidance from a man who meant the world to me. Life without Uncle Smith will be a difficult one for me and the kids ( 6 dogs). I am forever grateful for the time I had with him and will treasure it until my last breathe. I can see him looking down and smiles at us and telling us that he is fine and happy to have reunited with granny. We love you, Uncle and the kids miss you very much, especially, Harry. We will meet again and please look over us for good health and prosperity. I love you!

Uncle Smitty this is what my brothers and sisters and I should have told you frequently while you were still here; We were so excited when you visited us in the 1950's in Richmond CA with your mother, Aunt Roxie, and Grandma Ruth Deaton. We talked about that visit all our lives. We enjoyed visiting with you on our few trips to Texas and appreciate you taking care of your mother, our Granny. We loved you. We look forward to you being reunited with us and your father, mother and your sisters, especially our mother Leora in a new system of things on a paradise earth soon to come. Your nieces and nephews Phyllis, Denny, Judy, Richard and me, Melanie Deaton.
