Sol Gordon Obituary

Sol Gordon was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 10, 1932. He died at his home on October 17, 2011.

Soon after graduating from Ohio University, he married Winnie Saxon on September 12, 1954. They were married for 57 years.

Sol served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1974. His assignments included Newfoundland, Labrador, Japan, Vietnam, and Systems Command at Andrews AFB. He also worked in Special Investigations. During his military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm and numerous other medals and awards. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his military career, he became editor and CEO of Uniformed Services Almanac, Inc. He published several books dealing with compensation and benefits for military personnel.

He was a regular at Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia. He was also a member of the Benni Birth Levy Lodge and a former lay leader at the Fort Belvoir Jewish Congregation. Sol supported the World Jewish Congress, the American Mogen Dovid Adom and several other Jewish organizations.

He was a member of the Air Force Association, Military Officer's Association, National Association for the Uniformed Services and Disabled American Veterans.

Sol is survived by his wife, Winnie; their five children, Gary, Jeff, Gail, Phil, and Debra; and their ten grandchildren, Kira, Dana, Noah, Anna, Jaidan, Ben, Aubree, Dinah, Brandon, and Caleb. Others mourning Sol's passing include: his sister, Esther; Gary's wife, Deb; Phil's wife Rachel; Debra's husband, Ron and several other close family and friends.

The family will be observing Shiva on October 22 through October 27 at the home of Ron and Debra Hunter. In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy in his memory may be made to Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia or any of his other favorite Jewish organizations.
