I knew both Sonja and Judy in their later high school years in Eagle Rock. I met Judy up in Big Bear Lake, Ca one Summer and never forgot her. I had two friends who went to visit them with me and Sonja much preferred my friend John over the other guy, Richard Wilsher (now deceased). Both Judy and Sonja were so very pretty, especially with their red hair and beautiful smiles. I'm so sorry to hear of Sonja's passing. I knew her as vibrant, energetic, and kind; just like her sister Judy. I'm sorry she passed so soon in life and I'm sure she would have given much more if she only had the time. Peace to all in her family. Richard Behmer

Seems like this has been the longest year of my life (and not in a good way!) Besides my sister, other dear friends have departed as well. Still missing the folks too; grief has it's own lifespan.

Thinking of you today with a sad heart. It seems impossible that you have been gone from us for one year already. Life continues but it's not the same when you can't talk with your sister and remember all the great times we had together. No one but you, can really understand what this means. I will always love and miss you until we can be together again.

Today would have been my beautiful sister Sonja´s 75th birthday. She went to heaven five months ago. It is a very difficult thing to come to grips with, losing a sibling. Sonja was almost 13 years my senior, and I looked up to her very much. In looking through family pictures I noticed that wherever she was, I was always right next to her. She had a great sense of humor, and had the best laugh. She loved to play games after our family holiday dinners. I still remember when Pam, Carrie and I would wash her VW bug and she would take us to Foster Freeze afterward for vanilla dip ice cream cones as our reward. When I was 10 years old, she pierced my ears, using ice cubes and a needle! She loved to tell stories, and was like our family historian. She knew who all the aunts, uncles and cousins were, and who was related to whom. She was an amazing artist. She could draw, wood burn, embroider and sew so many creative things. One year she made replica dolls of each of her sisters that were over 3 feet tall. I have many treasured memories of driving to her home in Carmel by the Sea, visiting her, my brother-in-law and my nieces and nephew. She worked in the B Of A in the village of Carmel, and everybody knew her. Walking around town with her was like being with a celebrity. We would sit on her sofa or in her back patio and talk for hours. I always looked forward to getting her greeting cards for every holiday and she never missed my birthday. We stayed in contact on a regular basis via email and every once in a while, I would get a surprise letter in the mail, something she had seen in a magazine that she thought I would like. She would cut it out and mail it to me with a little note attached in her beautiful handwriting. I will always treasure our time together and miss her always.

My dear sweet sister, Sonja, it's impossible to put into words everything you meant to me and how much I miss corresponding with you, the sound of your voice, your laughter, your keen wit and sense of humor! I looked up to you, you were so beautiful, not only on the outside, but the inside, too! And, so artistically talented with your ballet and drawing/painting. I am left with only memories now, that I cherish.... You were the BEST big sister growing up! You always watched over me and kept me safe! In your teenage years, you even took us, the 3 youngest siblings, along on your adventures and we had such fun with you and Steve!! Riding in the back of his Porsche, listening to The Doors "Riders on the Storm" on the car radio, driving up the winding, curving road of the Angeles Crest Forest. And, when I was old enough at age 12, you trusted me to babysit your 1-year old daughter, my niece Heidi, for the entire summer, while you worked at the BofA in So. Pasadena, and Steve was off serving our Country stationed in Korea! I enjoyed my many stops in Carmel and the incredible Blintzes at the Little Swiss Bakery/Restaurant, sitting up those nights chatting, laughing and catching up with you and Steve. I wish we could go back in time and relive all of those moments together, xoxo.... You are missed by many, your wonderful husband, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. You touched the hearts of everyone who ever had the privilege of knowing you!! I know you're in Heaven now, enjoying eternal life, entertaining and catching up with all the relatives!! I love you sister, Sonzzz, and I know we will see each other again in paradise!!! Carrie XoXo :)

The word I will always associate with my sister Sonja - FUN! It seems like we were always in pursuit of fun in her company. Most of my memories start around the birth of Heidi - I was unofficial childminder on outings to Bob's Big Boy restaurant, the La Brea tar pits, parks or art museums. Later as a student at UC Santa Cruz, many weekends were spent in the Jeter household in Carmel, to get away from craziness in the dorms. Their home was so welcoming, serene, and offered good coffee, the newest music (when Steve worked for Abinante music) and late nights discussing all topics. My visits stayed frequent throughout the '80s, as a single, newlywed and new mother. In the early '90s our mother Geraldine and my daughter Emily came along on these trips. We came to her, always welcome, as Sonja didn't like leaving the Monterey Peninsula. Who does?
Sonja, we always had fun thanks to you!

Oh Mom, I miss you! Any beauty (red hair, and green eyes!!) and artististic or creative talent I have, I got from you! - thank you for (trying) to teach me how to macrame, sow and embroider, for all the time and love and care you put into those special handmade dresses and dolls you made for me! I remember our Carmel lunches, having blintzes (our most favorite ever!) at Little Swiss Cafe and having souvlaki at that little Greek place on the corner, and of course Orange Julius! ...but then, I grew up and moved away...
There was a lullaby you used to sing to me when I was very little - I can't remember the words but I will always remember the melody. Thank you for being my Mother! Love, your Doll (Heidi)

Sonja was not only my sister but my best friend too. We were only 1.5 years apart in age, and when we were young, people thought we were twins. She's the only one who could make me laugh hysterically as we reminisced about the good old days. I admired her amazing artistic talents. She could make the most beautiful things which she often gifted to me. She loved dressing up for special occasions, holidays and Halloween! Her beautiful home in Carmel-by-the-Sea was a showcase of her talents. I must be content now with my memories and photos of our long life together, until we meet again. All my love, Judy

Mom,
I will always remember your laugh and your little sayings! You had the biggest heart, and I´m so glad my daughter got to know you for the first 6 years of her life. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. Until we see each other again; I love you
