Sophie Kuntz, 90, Drake, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey.
Sophie Schmaltz, daughter of Mike and Caroline (Brossart) Schmaltz, was born June 11, 1928 on her parents’ farm northwest of Balfour where she grew up and attended a nearby country school. She later moved to Drake where she was employed at Bossert Implement.
On June 20, 1950 she married Frank F. Kuntz. They made their home and farmed south of Drake where they worked side by side and raised their family. In 2002 they moved their farmhouse into Drake where Sophie resided until January of 2015. Frank passed away August 20, 2011.
Sophie was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild of the church. Most important to Sophie were her husband and family. Grandchildren also held a very special place in her heart.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Kenneth (Karen) Kuntz of Williston, Daniel Kuntz of Drake & Allen (Dawn) Kuntz of Drake; 2 daughters, Barbara (Warren) Booth of Bloomington, IL and Beverly (Scott) Jacobson of Bismarck; Grandchildren – Julie (James) Hellman, Dickinson; Chris (Kristin) Booth, Bloomington IL; Brad (Cortnee) Booth, Muskego WI; Susan (TJ) Gifford, Eureka MO; Lisa (Brandon) Enervold, Bismarck; Marcia (Chase) Kolle, Fargo; Michelle Kuntz, Bismarck; Ryan Kuntz, Rugby; James Kuntz, Bismarck; and Bobbie Jo Kuntz, Drake; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents and sisters, Caroline Schmaltz, Frances Schmaltz, Katherine Lukach and infant sister Marie Schmaltz.
Visitation: Sunday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. followed by a 7:00 P.M. prayer service, St. Margaret Mary Catholic church.
Funeral: Monday, December 10 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake.
Burial: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Cemetery
Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
