Stan Lederman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2025.
Dr. Stan Lederman, a devoted Clinical Psychologist, educator, and compassionate advocate for children and families, passed away at home on January 5, 2025, in San Diego, California. He was 81 years old.

Born on January 18, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, Stan's life was defined by a deep commitment to helping others. His academic journey reflected his passion for learning and service: He was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High, who has had many illustrious graduates. He attended Ohio State University, Miami University, and Bowling Green before earning his Ph.D. from United States International University. With this foundation, he went on to become a licensed Clinical Psychologist and maintained a thriving private practice for over 52 years.

Before embarking on his clinical career, Stan began as a high school special education teacher in Ohio. He had experienced a learning disability of his own as a child and this early experience shaped his lifelong dedication to supporting those with learning differences. Throughout his decades in private practice, he specialized in working with families and children-particularly those with learning disabilities-offering guidance, support, and hope to countless individuals. His impact extended beyond the therapy room; he established a scholarship program specifically designed to assist students with learning disabilities, ensuring that his legacy of care would continue for generations.

Stan's professional accomplishments were matched by the warmth and generosity he brought into every aspect of his life. He was known for his kind heart, sharp intellect, and infectious sense of humor. Patients often spoke of how deeply they felt seen and supported by him-a testament to the empathy that guided both his work and personal relationships.

For 47 years, Stan shared a loving marriage with his wife Dixi. Together they built a life filled with adventure and companionship. They traveled the world alongside friends, creating memories that spanned continents and cultures. At home in San Diego, Stan found joy in simple pleasures: playing racquetball several times a week, shooting trap and skeet monthly, reading voraciously-always with a book in hand-and giving back to his community as a dedicated blood donor who contributed over 25 gallons to the San Diego Blood Bank. Stan loved to drive his fast Porsches and always thought he would have made a great Dolphin trainer.

Animals held a special place in Stan's heart. Throughout his life he was surrounded by beloved dogs and cats who brought him comfort and companionship. His home was always open not just to people but also to the animals he cherished so dearly.

Stan is survived by his beloved wife Dixi and his beloved cousins Sandy Lederman Tucker, like a sister and Judy Lederman Sternberg a Baltimore native and other close cousins across the country who held him dear. He was preceded in death by his brother David; mother Helen; and father Albert-affectionately known as Oz.

A man of unwavering compassion and integrity, Stan touched the lives of all who knew him-human or animal-with kindness and humor. His absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of family members, friends, patients, colleagues, and all those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.

May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all whose lives he enriched.

I found this while searching the web for information on Stan. I was a friend and classmate of his 50 years ago at USIU in San Diego. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I have memories of he and I writing hand written letters back and forth when he had first moved to San Diego (and fooling the Post Office by sticking tape over the stamp we used over and over). I remember Stan for his compassion, his humor, and his willingness to reach out and embrace others. RIP, Stan!

Stan was more than friend. He was like a big brother over the 40 years of meeting on a regular basis to just BS about life. Bacon will never be the same
