Sending my deepest sympathy to the family of Stan Childress...I am so sorry to hear the sad news of his passing and I am thinking about all of you. I worked not with but along side Stan during some of my many years first on the radio and then on TV news in Detroit. He was always so friendly and respectful to everyone...he was a really good reporter. Most importantly though I am sure he was so wonderful to his family and I am sure this is such an incredible loss. Sending thoughts to all of you...knowing heart warming memories will stay with all of you...always.

My prayers and condolences to the Childress family. I went to R.J. Bunche school with Lorae, Andre and Pierre and grew up on 18th st in Ecorse. I remember Stan as the Childress's big brother that they looked up to. Their mother, Mrs Childress, actually pierced my ears when I was about 9 or 10 years old. God bless all of you and hold on to your memories of Stan the Man and he will always be with you.

To the Childress family,
Although I only knew Stan in the community of Fox Lake for a couple of years, I recognized the minute I met him, that he was special. He stepped right in and up as a wise, gentle leader of a lake community with a long, rich history. He most certainly understood the importance of education and visionary ideas. His presence and guidance at Fox Lake, will be greatly missed, but his life legacies will carry on. Blessings.

Stan was always more like big brother #2 than a cousin to me. I could tell him my aspirations for what I wanted to be when I grew up. And he loved that I loved to write poetry. He and my big cousin Paulette always inspired me in the arts. Paulette as an artist, Stanley with his big brain. And please don't leave out my modeling cousin Denise; Sheliah the construction major and Jr the Road Dog! But Stan led the way. He taught us all to be proud and protective of our talents. That's why Wesley was able to come and bless Alabama with his talents for building and painting. Stan the Man I thank you! Rest well big cuzzin! See you on the other side! Peace!

One of the best of memories is sitting at the table talking with CLRJames while his assistant cooked spaghetti dinner in the kitchen; at the Pan-African Institute for Self Reliance - or otherwise known as Gary and Berlinda's house, lol...Walnut St.
'Mouse'

Had to share our comrade Stan Childress RIH...stories of revolutionary discourse on struggle...tempers flying...loud arguments...but Stan's calming and reassuring presence meant we all would survive another night of Marxism...Pan Africanism...Cultural Nationalism...MLK...Malcolm X...RNA...Black Panthers...NOI....heated and raw arguments being up all night trying to make a point!!!

Kofi...Kimathi...Imani...Sekou...Malcolm 2X...Chui.. Nbuzi Mtu...Stan was the only one who didn't feel any need to change his name...but hey that was our comrade!!! We all lived together in the Pan African Institute for Self Reliance back during the Movement. ...
Stan had my back as the only female in that house!!!!

I was contacted by an Author who wanted to tell our story...he couldn't track us down because we all had changed our names except Stan...

Stan held his own...
Our struggle continues

I had the chance to live a whole year with Stan and his family to take care of Connor. He considered me as a family member right away. He always encouraged me and helped me to improve my English. He was such a model and an inspiring person. He will be missed but I'll never forget him. May God bless him and and his family.

Stan was a great man who I had the pleasure of knowing. We met through his daughter because we had become good friends and he was ready to take on his next adventure which was music. After meeting him for the first time we didn't have any long or drawn out conversation because it was a business meeting. But we ended up having a relationship that I never saw coming. I was constantly at his house hanging out with his family. I think he just got use to having me around. Then he himself started inviting me to family dinners and events they had planned. I can even remember a few times when he would here a noise in the house and go investigate the situation and say that's just Bird I'm going back to sleep. I asked him once why he didn't mind me around so much and always kept me close to all of them. By the end of the conversation I realized he saw me as a family member not just some guy that was hanging around. He also saw alot of good things in me that most wouldn't. Not even me. I admired the man for a lot of reasons but most of all I admired him for being able to see all of someone. Who they were who they are and who they had the potential to be. Thanks for seeing me. Rest up Stan the man you will truly be missed. Until we meet again. Bird

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband/dad/grandfather. Dr. Stanley Childress was a consummate educator and faithful friend. He made a difference in the lives of students, especially at DSA. While his spirit lives on as he joins the ancestors, he leaves this earth with cherished memories and life’s lessons evidenced in his words and deeds. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am so very grateful to have had the honor to call him colleague and friend. He will be sorely missed by the countless lives he touched. God bless. Rest in Power!

I was head of the RHS parent organization when Stan interviewed for the assistant principal position.
I didn’t understand why anyone would give up being a tv personality to work with crazy teenagers.
I didn’t know that Stan was like the “Blues “ brothers. On a mission from god.
Like all missions you must report back.
Mission accomplished Stanley!!

I went to Oakland University with Stanley. We knew he was special back then. He was so studious and sincere, kind, and had a friendly smile for everyone. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. But, if ever something was true, then his spirit survives on; in that he has simply moved to another part of the circle of life; and whenever we think of him, it creates an echo in time. He lived a full life and will not be forgotten.

Dearest Niambi, as I read the obituary I smiled and imagined how incredible Mr. Stanley was! This passage in particular made me think of you: “ Despite his peaceful demeanor and kindheartedness, Stan didn’t take no stuff.” That is who you are and a part of his legacy you will carry with you. May your heart continue to be comforted by loving memories of him! God bless you and your family.
