My deepest condolences for your loss. I am very sadden to learn of Mr. Copland's passing. I had the privilege of having Mr. Copland as an English and Literature teacher at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary. He was an amazing educator who did not just teach us but instilled in many of us his love and passion of literature and of the written word. So much so that thirty years later I am passing it onto my son. I will never forget Mr. Copland as he was always my favorite teacher. Thank you for sharing him with all of us. Take care.

So sorry for your loss. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Copland as an English teacher in high school at Sir Winston Churchill HS in Vancouver. He was very talented, inspirational and great mentor. Truly one of the best.

It was my privilege to have Stan Copland as my teacher for English Literature 12 at U. Hill in 1969 or 1970; and he was also the supervising teacher of our production of Twelfth Night that year. He was a wonderful teacher and made a significant contribution to my own love of English literature. I also have a vivid memory of him many years later, at a U. Hill reunion. He was smiling, very approachable, good humoured, and interested in what we were all doing. He was still excited about literature. I am so lucky that he was my teacher.

I was indeed fortunate to have Mr. Stan Copland as one of my teachers at University HIll between 1964 and 1970. In the latter years of that period I immensely enjoyed being in his stage productions and literature classes, during which time he was highly influential in my developing interest in literature and drama. These in turn I was able to bring to my own students as a teacher in decades to follow, which is one of many indications of how his positive influence has spread far and wide. It is with great warmth that I think of his compassion, sense of humour, thoughtfulness, and of our renewed friendship in more recent times. Mr. Copland's invaluable influence carries on.

Mr. Copland was a major guide for me in my life. He was my teacher at Churchill, and a most valued mentor when I became a teacher. He always had time to listen and encourage. I will miss him.

Stan could jot down the perfect verse to illustrate the hours.
Stan could quote Shakespeare or discuss first folios with aplomb.
Stan was a wit.
Stan knew the ideal antidote for transgressing deer.
Stan could sing madrigals in perfect three part harmony.
Stan will be missed.

Mr Copland taught me in in the early 80's at Churchill - what a wonderful teacher and influential human being he was!! I will never forget his 'table talk' discussions, his kind voice, and the way he taught Shakespeare. In one of the assignments, I poured my heart out about the difficult family life I was having - he disregarded all my grammatical errors and wrote 'your story ends in a sad tone - try finding a happy ending' - and gave no grade. When asked what grade I received for this assignment, he just brushed me off and said 'it's all ok'. This is how kind he was. I will never ever forget this kind gentleman.
