Stanley Milton Ferguson, Jr.

1936-2024

Stanley Milton Ferguson, Jr. (Stan) 87, of Denver, CO, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on April 10, 2024. Stan will be remembered for his larger than life sense of humor and passion for cooking. He treated everyone with kindness and always looked for the best in people. He was intelligent, creative, and generous. He enjoyed spending time reading with his sweet dog, Fiona, in his lap. He also took pride in serving on the residents' council for his community. However, his favorite times were those spent with family, eating a good meal or playing Rummikub.

Stan was born in Hackensack, NJ on April 24, 1936 and moved to Kenmore, NY where he graduated from Kenmore High School in 1954. For college, Stan spent the first two years at Syracuse University on a swimming scholarship; including briefly holding a world record in breaststroke. He then transferred to Michigan State University where he graduated in 1958.

After college, Stan married his first wife Kaye (Ferguson Patton) with whom he had three children, Carrie, Kelley, and Stan. He later met the love of his life, Susan Cahan Ferguson, to whom he was married for nearly thirty years before her passing in 2014. While they did not have any children together, Stan embraced Susan's children, Sandra, Stacey, and Anne, as his own. In addition to being a father, he delighted in being a grandfather and great grandfather.

Throughout his life, Stan had a variety of professions in which he achieved success. He regularly worked in radio and television, including creating, directing, producing, and hosting the children's television show "Whistles the Wizard" in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a successful sales manager for multiple companies across the country including in Detroit, Chicago, and Memphis. Stan spent the last twenty years of his career working in real estate in Bakersfield, California alongside his wife Susan, including hosting a weekly radio show, "The Real Estate Hour." Upon retirement he relocated to Denver, Colorado to be closer to family.

Stan's survivors include daughter Anne Walter, husband David Goldstein, and granddaughter Vivian Goldstein; daughter Stacey Walter; daughter Sandra Walter and fiance Victor Lewton; son Stan Ferguson III and wife Martha Ferguson; grandson Tommy Ferguson, wife Ashley Ferguson, and great grandchildren Bennett and Rhodes Ferguson; grandson Matthew Ferguson, wife Tori Ferguson, and great grandson John Stanley Ferguson; daughter Carrie Goetz and granddaughter Collynne Tyer; and daughter Kelley Matthews and granddaughter Stephanie Matthews.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife Susan Cahan Ferguson in 2014 as well as his parents Stanley M. Ferguson in 1977 and Virginia K. (DeLue) Ferguson in 2007 and sister Patsu (Ferguson) Pommerening in 2015.

Stan requested cremation and his ashes will be scattered at sea off the coast of Santa Barbara where his parents and sister's ashes were also scattered.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in memory of Stan to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's in Denver, Colorado. (http://dpf.convio.net/goto/Remembering_Stan)
