He was born in Lyman, New Hampshire, to Harley and Helen (Clough) Folsom. They lived in Littleton, New Hampshire, St. Johnsbury and then Marshfield, Vermont, where he attended and graduated from high school. He attended and later graduated from Lyndon Teachers College in 1952. It was here that he played basketball and baseball, and where he led the school choir. Playing the piano was a treat for him and all those who heard him.
He taught in Rochester, Vermont, for two years, Randolph for three years, then in Milton, Vermont, for 27 years, mostly junior high school English. He coached boys baseball and basketball in Rochester, girls basketball in Randolph and in Milton, he coached boys baseball for one year and boys basketball for four years, and girls basketball for 22 years. He also worked for the Vermont State Highway Department during the summer for 10 years.

Stanley was a self-taught artist drawing pictures of trains and railroad stations, and scenes of local and national trains. He recently had an art showing at the Marshfield Library, where he also did a talk on railroading.
He married a nurse, Sally Perron from St. Albans, who survives him. They had two children, Steven R. Folsom and Carissa M. Lovely.

Mrs Folsom, Steve and Carrissa,

My sincere condolences to each of you on the death of Stanley.
I don't know if you would remember me, but I also was an English teacher and coach at Milton High.
In fact, my first year I used Stan's classroom for one of my classes.
There are many humorous stories I could relate that involve Stan. He was a well respected and liked man.
Thoughts &prayers are with you at this time.

Our whole family loved Stanley. We knew him since 1987, 31 years! The older he got, the more we loved him! We spent time with him when we could. We listened to his stories, and loved hearing them, they were meaningful. He spoke from his heart a lot. He spoke once about how he got together with Sally. You could tell how happy he was to tell this story! We supplied him with church supper tickets and Christmas wreaths. When we came over for these, we knew it was time to visit again!! It had been awhile, and we sure wanted to know how he had been doing! He seemed to stay active for a long time! It seemed I saw him outdoors last year doing something in the yard?! We also brought him a birthday treat for his 90th birthday, his last birthday. Oh how we loved you Stanley, you gave us much life hearing your stories, listening to the organ, and looking at your train pictures! I will miss him this winter when it snows! He seemed to be stressed in the winter over the snow. He always had concern over the snow needing to be plowed. God bless you Sally, Carissa, and Stephen, you were blessed indeed to have a good father and husband in your lives! I'm sure you'll miss him more than us. We are so sorry he's gone. We loved him and we love you!

Dear Sally & Family,

I am so sorry to hear about Stan's passing. Stan was a major influence on me during my high school years. I never had him in the class room, but rather as a basketball coach for the boys at Milton High School for 4 years. His enthusiasm for, and knowledge of basketball were really "off the charts". He taught me so much about the game and life. He was a true gentleman that I will always remember.

Deepest sympathy to the family.

Mr. Folsom was a wonderful man, a brilliant coach to us girls on his Milton basketball team, and a gifted musician and artist. I recall him coming to our house and playing a little organ. I fondly remember how he leaned back smiling as he played.

We were lucky to have had him in our young lives coaching us during those long winter evenings on the basketball court at MHS. He believed in us, and we believed in him.

Fond farewell, Mr. Folsom.

Stephen, Carissa and Sally it saddens to learn of Mr. Folsom's passing. He was my junior high English teacher and my varsity basketball coach. He gave each of his basketball players one of his railroad art pieces and framed mine and still have it. You will all be in my thoughts as you are going through this difficult time in your lives.

I was Brenda Turner in high school.

Sally and family, Mr. Folsom was my teacher and coach. He was wonderful in both capacities and my grammar wouldn't be what it is if I hadn't been in his class. Please accept my sincere condolences. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Stan was truly "old school". In his classroom he was truly the "head master". Students were taught grammar. punctuation, etc. He also enjoyed playing "gigs" at many area venues.... taping his fingers has to be a first among musicians. I wish we had more Stan Folsom like teachers in our classrooms today.
