Stanley Kaplan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2025.
Stanley M. Kaplan, age 77, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025, in Richmond, Virginia.

Born on December 3, 1947, in Miami, Florida, Stanley was the son of Leon and Dorothy Kaplan. He graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Florida in 1969. While at university, he was a member of Pi Lambda Phi fraternity.

That same year, Stanley married Karen Wagner Kaplan. They welcomed their first son, Joshua, who sadly passed away at just 11 months old. Together, Stanley and Karen raised two adopted children, Katie and Jonathan, in Winter Haven, Florida, where they lived for 35 years.

Stanley began his professional career with a 15-year tenure at Sears before earning his contractor's license. He went on to establish Kaplan Homes and later founded Cabinets, Etc. He also played a key role in the founding of Temple Beth Shalom in Winter Haven and served as its first president.

After their children were grown, Stanley and Karen moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina, where they built their dream home by the lake. As his health declined, they relocated to Richmond to be closer to Jonathan and his family.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his son Joshua; and his sister Rita Ginsburg. He is survived by his beloved wife Karen; his children Jonathan and Katie; his grandchildren Olive, Rowan, Finlay, Crew, and Cora; his sister Linda Brickman; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Cypresswood Country Club, in Winter Haven, Florida, on October 12, at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.

Stan was a Fraternity Brother of mine at the University of Florida. Always a solid guy who was a terrific intramural quarterback. Over the years Bob Feldman would give me updates. Saddened by his passing. Karen, may his Memory Be a Blessing.
Fraternally,
Allen Soden
