Dave Phillips was a Great Man of Integrity. He and Kay were so good to me. I had the opportunity to set down with Dave and Kay they made me feel like a son. I will always remember Dave as a man that loved, life and human life. Upon Dave´s meeting our new English Bulldog puppy in his kitchen at Valleyfields Farm 10+ years ago, he asked me what was his name. I replied: "Cannoli". Dave asked: "What´s a Cannoli?" I then replied: "It´s an Italian pastry." In his unique and charming voice, Dave asked: "Why would you ever name a handsome dog after a lazy socialist?" Classic Dave making another simple moment special.
Love you, man!

Dave was a friend through our fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon at UNC and its 1851 Society for distinguished service by an alumnus. He was the keynote speaker at the DKE Convention in Charlotte in July. He cared deeply for his 1965 brothersHe epitomized our slogan "Gentleman, Scholar, and Jolly Good Fellow."

I had an opportunity to speak with Mr. Phillips and his wife Kay a few weeks ago. I held his frail warm hand and told him I once worked at Phillips Factors from 1986-1998. His face lit up with the biggest smile as we talked about the "good ole days" at the corner of Main Street and Green before moving to the 11th floor at Market Square Towers. He was so humble and kind as we talked about employees we both remembered. He was so gracious and thanked me for talking with him. His family will certainly have emptiness in their hearts as they lay him to rest. May God carry Mrs. Phillips, their daughters and families in the days and weeks that lie ahead.

Prayers for peace and comfort,

Sharon Prevost
